Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Some tell Richie!

The one area Sonic has managed to be superior to Mario.
The Mario movie pain is still felt and suffered by those poor unfortunates who have seen it.
It's a scarring experience, even Big the Cat can't eclipse the utter naffness of that bloody film.

I see they had to wait until Hoskins had run out of continues before releasing this on Blu though.

Christ that sonic fan film was woeful. Sonic fans should just stick to yiffing behind closed doors so it's not inflicted on the rest of the world.

I have an interesting one, when I was in 4th/5th class myself and a mate had a comic called VIOLENCE! with lots of red pen being abused.

One of the characters we had was a lone mercenary soldier called 'Lone Soldier' (I think it was around the same time we both watched Commando :pac:)

Anyway, I was clearing out some attic stuff and came across one of them, from about 93/94.

    Here you go, for your enjoyment, from my slightly deranged 10 year old mind;

    LoneSoldier_zpse151e611.jpg

In 1996, 'Lone Soldier' came out on the PS1, I was so pissed off and was convinced they stole my idea :D

That reminds me when I was 14 I think and I was in the car with my dad and said to him wouldnt be cool if you could plug your guitar into your playstation and play songs that teaches you. Low and behold not even a year later guitar hero was announced , I too was convinced activision stole my idea

Your idea sounds better, at least it would have been a real guitar & not a joypad shaped like a guitar :D

Well it wasn't just you that thought of the idea first. Konami were so surprised that their game Guitar Freak had been so comprehensively cloned that they somehow ended up in court over it :P

They've one of them as well, can't remember the name of it but have one at home just plug it your (real) guitar and bash away.

Activision didn't create the Guitar Hero series. They bought out the creators and milked that series for everything it was worth.

Besides, it's hardly teaching you guitar if it's just a bunch of buttons instead of strings. If you want a real rip off of your idea, just look at the guys behind Rocksmith, since they let you use your own electric guitar to play the game.

If Guitar Hero is another name for a book of chords then yes, yes it is :D The real guitar interface stuff is grand, the other instruments that are glorified joypads annoy me a bit though...you're not playing a guitar!! :D

It's a shame the Guitar Hero guitar couldn't be far less controller like alright.

When I was bashing away on one, my missus would play the Guitar Hero drumkit. It was pretty great fun.

She's now graduated to an Alesis DM10 while I'm wondering why I didn't just keep practicing my actual guitar :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 664 ✭✭✭Tomo.Murphy

I put a lot of hours into Guitar hero 3 and 4 on the Wii. The World Tour drum kit is a nightmare though. I've had to fix it multiple times (even had to fix the left pad with an ice pop stick). Had to get Red Octane to send out a midi-USB cable and drum-tuning software to fiddle with the drum sensitivity too.

They were fun games, but it seemsed like every time you walked in to a game shop there was a new one out.

Haven't gotten around to Rocksmith yet, but I'd probably mostly only play that so I could use my TVs as amps, ha.

This is why the people who were in the know played Frequency and Amplitude from that company before any mention of Guitar Hero.
Also, the California synth pop band Freezepop feature in those games because one of their members was a director of Harmonix. Actually now a former member of the band Kasson Crooker.
Too much useless information in this noggin of mine.

But the two are great games, though I haven't seen them for sale in some time.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,889 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Most of the Harmonix people also worked at Looking Glass creating amazing games like Thief, System Shock and Terra Nova. And before that a few of them were in the band Tribe who are worth checking out if you like bands like the Pixies. Think there's a few of them that worked on Dishonored as well.

Got the bus out to Dun Laoghaire with my sister last night to see Howl's Moving Castle.

Stupid 45a took far longer than it should have, over an hour - get there 20 minutes before the film though so thought we'd be grand.

Walk up the counter. 'Sorry, Howl literally just sold out this second'

Went to see Maze Runner instead. Bad idea, it was terrible. Should have just scrapped the cinema idea and drank cans with the winos on the pier instead.

The fact that David Bowie isn't it in makes that an automatic 'no!' :D

It tries so hard to be a franchise/the next Hunger Games that you can almost hear the director pleading with you to buy into the idea of 5 sequels.

City of Ember is the only one of these 'Young Adult' fantasy/scifi movies that I've thought was any use. Too bad it didn't do well, don't think too many know about it. But it's pretty cool.

I have the books actually, the premise was intriguing as was the presence of the notoriously choosy Bill Murray in the cast. It wasn't bad but the book is much better and the sequel and prequel are pretty damn good.
You can borrow them if you like.
