Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I just meant that Rorschach's actions might be considered cool by a certain type of person. You know, the one that craves uncompromising libertarian vigilantism.

So a Fox news viewer or member of the tea party?

I'm playing the first one since I never finished it. I forgot how good it is. When there's so much bull**** at the moment with people looking for games to be accepted, leading to **** like gamergate, and so much emphasis at trying to inject games with some kind of meaning and significance and mostly failing, it's refreshing to play a game that doesn't forget it's a game and just concentrates on being a tonne of ridiculous fun. In a way it reminds me of stuff like Contra 3 and Rocket Knight Adventures, games that you could tell the designers were just having a blast creating and not caring if a set piece made no sense as long as it was fun.

Is the Sonic Collection for the DS any use? Seems to have all the Sonic games worth having on one cart...

Apparently not, poor emulation of the games according to accounts.
Better to go the R4 route and play via emu

Given how superb Sonic Jam on the Saturn is its a wonder they couldn't do a similar perfect job of the DS but there you go.
The system that can run a game like New Super Mario Bros falters trying to play Sonic the Hedgehog.
I'm sure, somewhere, Richie is delighted!

I tried to play P.T. today, in the middle of the day, with sun coming in the window.
    And I couldn't do it.
    Scary fupping game that.
I'll stick to Tinkerbell on the 3DS.

I have to be honest, I've never understood how people can't finish every games (or films). They are only games, after all. I'm not saying that in a 'you're all wusses if you can't finish it' sort of way (but you are :pac:) but I really can't understand how people get legitimately terrified by games. PT is creepy and effective for sure, but not 'turn it off before pants are soiled' scary.

Presume you mean scary? I wouldn't be the biggest fan of them but it's not about being terrified for me - I just don't like the jump type of scares in films or games. The sudden fright kind - not good for heart! I'm a big fan of the Alien franchise but Isolation doesn't interest me at all for this reason. Same goes for PT.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

I thought PT was very effective at building psychological tension in the player, & while effective at the jump scares too...for me the best part is the atmosphere & sense of foreboding it creates. The constant loop, the knowledge that each loop brings you closer & closer to 'something', the lighting, the sound work...I thought it came together so very well that being a demo, it puts most full games to shame for what can be achieved.

Yep, scary was intended, phone typo :(

I agree with Myrddin that a few jump scares aside (and there's one that has scared the **** out of several of my friends when I've watched them play it) PT is all about psychologically unnerving content. It is very impressive, as it uses repetition in a super effective way and makes the most out of what seems like a limited setting.

It did look very effective alright and will be interesting to see if they can keep up that cleverness for
the main Silent Hill game. Also, is that chap from The Walking Dead going to be in the main game I wonder? Would that not be a bit offputting?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,889 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I was quite disappointed in PT. the scares and atmosphere were effect and really well done but it fell at the final hurdle for me. I feel if you are going to do psychological horror you've got to have a pay off at the end and PT's was particularly ham fisted and a big 'is that it?'. Definitely worth playing though and it's more disappointing than bad since what it does up to tat point is great.

TIE fighter and X wing games on GOG later this week.
Possibility of Alliance and XvT soon too seemingly.
Take yer Rouge squadron and stick it up yer arse George Lucas ,

It seems Disney are really relaxing their anti digital policy at the moment, I know the kingdom hearts games weren't available digitally because of it. At least something good is coming from the Lucas buy out. I saw they released a tonne of games on steam recently including the vastly under appreciated Tron 2.0 which is basically deux ex in the tron universe with non sucky combat

Also everyone needs to follow gamrpeboy world on YouTube:

The better half read a book while I played Destiny with a pair of headphones on.

2 and a half hours of gameplay in, with my first Strike mission complete, all on front of She Who Must Be Obeyed and we're not divorced!

Decent sale on playasia today. Alien Isolation is going pretty cheap for anyone interested in it. Seems playasia have done away with their free shipping though, boo-urns.

A tenner for the cheapest shipping option! That actually changes most of the prices from 'wow, that's great value!' (and I was going to pick up Alien Isolation and Persona 4 Ultimax) to 'that is not such good value' :(

When I tried to buy TTT2 on mobile I had 4 options of postage and I think the shipping was cheaper on my laptop, basic €8 shipping, could be wrong though.
    I'm surprised by the price

Yeah it's kind of annoying alright. Even more annoying is that when I get stuff sent to Sligo I keep getting caught for customs which makes it worse since Sauron now has a load to complain with all the packages turning up at her door.
