Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There was a moment where they asked me to step onto the bus and I thought my time was up :pac:

They had some amount of packages! No real system in place, just a huge pile of items and a couple of sheets of paper with names being checked off. Had to tell them my name and they went rummaging through all the parcels.

Thought they had a couple of items for me, but they only had one. Boo!

Because we all know, videogame movies tend to be great. I can see them being nothing but a great success.

    Oh wait :(

All of those games are pretty much generic rip offs of films that already exist. They took the core premise and developed it into a game. Not sure it's going to work back the other way...

Reckon we could get Robert De Niro to star in Crazy Taxi? Martin Scorsese could direct.

There's a ton of stuff from that hack that just needs to be discussed. Like this.

    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=950923

After watching After Earth, I'm more inclined to trust George Lucas with writing a new Star Wars than Gary Whitta. Hell, I don't think he deserves bashing his writing considering the amount of crap that goes on in that movie (WHY IS THAT MOTHER BIRD KILLING HERSELF TO PROTECT JADEN SMITH FROM THE COLD!? Just...why?)

    Pixel-Logic: a visual pixelart guide
Pixel-Logic will not be your typical step by step tutorial.
Instead, it will teach you techniques by studying video-game graphics from the past 30 years. The tutorials will cover pixel art from start to finish, with topics ranging from creating initial line art, to fully animating sprites.

    https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pixel-logic-a-visual-pixelart-guide#description

I think I maaay get the 8-bit portrait, it would be so cool (pixel art for JonTron's show and Wayforward)

Metal Wolf Chaos is a work of absolute comic genius. It's a actually a surprisingly well written game, the comedy works so well there's no way it was unintentional and there's some really clever satire going on. It is after all about a U.S. President killing his troops and destroying his country in the pursuit of freedom. The dodgy voice acting just accentuates the really awkward comedy.

And yet in this day and age, it would probably bomb it if was brought over, due to it being too sane compared to current events.

It came out in 2004 which was the height of post 911 mania. The game is mostly in English as well so looked like it was gearing up for a U.S. release and it's a really high quality game as well. I'd say it cut too close to the bone which saw it miss out on a U.S. release.

Any chance you could post up one of your famous 'must-have' lists for the original Xbox dude? It's a console I've seriously neglected, & while there isn't all that much to have on it, I'd like to have what's worth owning...

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,633 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

So much on the Xbox was multi platform, but there were plenty of exclusives that are worth the investment.
And the fact the console was unceremoniously euthanised with the release of the 360 so soon made the library relatively thin, when compared to the endurance of the PS2, even in the first years of the PS3.

You already have Steel Battalion, that's the list in itself :pac:

Have you got Panzer Dragoon Orta? One of the only titles on the console I'd consider a must have, can be had cheap enough too.

I'm a huge fan of Kung Fu Chaos as an xbox system exclusive that doesn't work on the 360.

    Crimson Skies
    PGR
    Amped and Amped 2
    Rallisport Challenge
    Jet Set Radio Future
    Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast
    Steel Battalion
    Star Wars: Republic Commando
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay

There's also what is essentially the definitive version of Shenmue 2.

What everyone else has said, with particular emphasis on Panzer Dragoon Orta. I'd advise against Repulic Commando. It's a 'Ciderman special' FPS. It's alright but plays like a mediocre Rainbow Six and there's a better PC version. Also the Chronicles of Riddick has a slightly better updated version.

    What I'd add is:

    Spikeout
    Metal Wolf Chaos
    Phantom Dust (US/Jap only release)
    Crazy Taxi 3
    Mech Assault 1 and 2
    Gunvalkyrie

And shame on everyone for forgetting Ninja Gaiden Black, the definitive version of Ninja Gaiden. It's a seriously amazing game

Then there's also the curiosity of Rent-A-Hero No. 1 which was totally localised, sent out for review, reviewed and then pulled by Sega just before release. It plays like Shenmue except you are a super hero going around helping people with mundane tasks like helping rescue kittens from trees.

I'm probably mising a few there. XBox isn't a great system but there's a few crackers like Ninja Gaiden and Orta that make it worth owning. A lot of it's games ended up on other consoles or PC.

The one I bought was a lot les expensive than the ones up there now but still cost quite a bit. It's only recently the price has gone insane, it used to be around the 80 euro mark.

    Dead Man's Hand
    Dungeons & Dragons Heroes
    Grabbed By The Ghoulies
    Championship Manager 02/03

Red Dead Revolver on the Xbox, unless you have it on the PS2.
Don't listen to Retr0, Republic Commando is my fave Star Wars licence of that gen.
The definitive Silent Scope collection is there too.
I hear Grabbed by the Ghoulies isn't a total waste of time, if only to see what Rare could do away from Nintendo.

That game was a massive disappointment after the sublime DMC3. I doubt a next generation coat of paint will do much to change that, especially after Bayonetta 2 once again set a new watermark.

DMC4 was excellent just not a patch on DMC3. Nero was great fun to use, what let the game down was the backtracking when you controlled Dante. The entire game was pretty much recycled. Still the combat was excellent which is what mattered.

All I just want is more DMC that isn't 2 or a DmC sequel. Though going by Ninja Theory's change in direction when it comes to developing games, I doubt that they would actually bother to do another considering that it sold below expectations.

I just hope they add in more than just playable Vergil in the Special Edition. And as for the visuals, I also hope that they go with what they did with Okami HD, and give the game multisampling so that there's no aliasing. Shouldn't be hard to achieve, considering just how well DMC4 ran on PC.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,447 ✭✭✭richymcdermott

Dmc4 was great just was not finished and unless you have the pc version with the debug mode enabled you essentially got a game half baked but its lovely regardless.

Devil may cry has yet a perfect game with dmc3 combat limiting you with two weapons and one style while dmc4 being ultimately a half completed game if the two titles were to use dmc 3 level design and over the top story with dmc 4 complex combat and amazing graphics which still destroys a majority of games recently with its amazing mt framework engine then we have our perfect game.

i spent 3 days locked down learning dmc 3 combat and the things you can do are mind blowing and vastly better than any other game in its genre.

i am buying 4 for vergil , 3rd time purchase and sure why not its devil may cry and not that other bull**** game with ninja theory who were so vastly delaying the game capcom had to help them out.
