Ireland usually follows in Britain's footsteps after a year or two, so I can expect similar blocks being implemented here.

"The average user is a kid or a person that doesn't have the means to see it any other way," a spokesman wrote in an email.

The comments echo the sentiment of open internet campaigners who disagree with blocking, arguing that content owners should instead concentrate on providing more legal methods to access content online.

Securing the rights to show Premier League football is huge business.

BT Sport, a newcomer in the market, is paying £246m per season for its broadcast rights, while BSkyB is paying £760m a year.

Meh, FirstRow will go, another 6 will pop up, I've been using the same site for 6yrs, never a problem wit nearly every sporting event in HD.

Instead of blocking sites they should be looking at ways to provide the content people want for a fee. Im sure plenty of people would happily pay for a season pass that showed the 38 games featuring the team they support. In other countries you can watch every single game legally via live streaming so why not here aswell? Never going to happen due to murdoch and co

I'd happily pay for Arsenal games. One thing I always hated about subscription sports channels on Sky, was paying for shít fixtures between the bottom-table clubs.
