Hey folks, is it possible to spray undergrowth with roundup in an ash plantation before thinning? I've to thin it out in a couple of weeks and there's a load of nettles etc at one end, my soft hands wouldn't be able for it :-)

    Possible but unnecessary.
Wear gloves.Or stamp down the nettles!
If you do spray avoid the tree trunk.

how old are the tree's if they have no lower foliage trunks are 35-40mm diameter or more as far as I know the roundup/Gysophate will not damage them. All you want to do is kill the green of the undergrowth so the spray need not be strong as for killing undergrowth completely.

the trees are 15 years old and are around 200mm+ in diameter, the nettles are up around 3 feet in spots...

Roundup around the trunk should make no difference. Check with a garden centre or forrestor to confirm

Shouldn't be a problem but you'll get the same result with Gallup or Touchdown but they are cheaper weedkillers.

Nettles are easily trampled. They're fading by now. Spraying sounds like too much work. Give it an attepmt before spraying.
