I love the way people knock planners.

The planning system here is still very much influenced by politicians. The current planners/engineers of that section of road were on a hiding to nothing in upgrading it as it had been built on a bog so long ago. I am sure that, given a clean sheet, they'd rather put the whole thing on much more solid ground.

Venice was built on a bog, long before JCB's and reinforced concrete !

    And is lasting better.

That job went out to tender, if the participants of that process did not like the idea of building on a bog, no body forced them to accept the tender.

Wondering whether this will impact traffic NOT using the sliproad. In theory it shouldn't but a combination of bad roadwork planning and poor drivers could easily make it a problem!
    Temporary Traffic Management Measures

Motorists are advised that significant traffic management measures will be put in place on the Cork South

Ring Road tonight. The temporary arrangements will affect N40 traffic heading west from the Kinsale Road

Roundabout. The westbound slip road heading toward the Sarsfield Road Roundabout will be reduced to 1

lane from tomorrow morning, Wednesday 19th March. Lane restrictions will also be in place on Sarsfield

Road Roundabout and Sarsfield Road. Other routes will not be affected.

Advance warning signage for N40 westbound traffic will be in place at the Mahon Interchange, immediately

east of the Kinsale Road Flyover, immediately west of the Kinsale Road Flyover and at Pouladuff to alert

motorists to the upcoming traffic management measures. Additionally, advance warning signage will be in

place in the general vicinity of Sarsfield Road Roundabout to alert motorists in this area.

An alternative route for traffic heading to CUH and Wilton via the Bandon Road Roundabout will be sign

posted in advance of the works. Directional signage will be in place, commencing immediately west of the

Kinsale Road Roundabout and motorists are asked to pay particularly close attention to this directional

signage while the traffic management measures are in place.

The purpose of the traffic management measures is to facilitate remedial works on the southern section of

Sarsfield Roundabout and on the westbound slip road heading toward the Sarsfield Road Roundabout.

It is anticipated that these works will be complete by mid-August with the above traffic management

measures in place until then. Motorists should note that delays are expected, particularly at morning and

evening peaks and are advised to take an alternative route where possible. Motorists should additionally note

that An Garda Siochana will be on site throughout enforcing the works speed limit.

Details of further traffic management measures required to complete the scheme will be issued under further

progress updates. As always, those with queries or concerns in relation to any aspect of the scheme; can

contact us on the free-phone helpline number 1800 932 046 or by email on n25@ccc-site.com.
