    I have a bit of as problem with people skipping off to the UK and getting their debts wiped out...am I alone there? I am sure they are entitled to, but what about the people you owe money to? Hardly fair, is it?

    Oh look - -> .

    That's the size of my sympathy for the lending institutions who fuelled the boom and the greedy sods who talked it up and the idiots who gleefully thought they'd make a fortune overnight.

    He got a 40 year mortgage at the age of 32. :rolleyes:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

    A 40 year mortgage with a 1700 a month payment which he only ever managed to pay for 5 months anyway ? That's just crazy, from both sides.

    How big a mortgage did he take out as that's massive over such a long period of time ?

    Ugh, this guy is making the rest of us who moved over to England look bad. (I just moved because I wanted to, not because of debts etc.)

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,054 ✭✭✭✭neris

    He took out a mortgage at €1700 a month and never paid a full months mortgage? What a thick idiot. Feeling no sympathy for him at all, getting angry listening to his poor me attitude and wont someone make my problems go away

    I'd let him off his debt so I wouldn't have to listen to him again

    I'd like to hear who he got the advice from, apart from Ben.

    You know, I dont work for a bank and have no connections with them..But I am fed up with this attitude of blaming the banks for all of the mess. Its idiots like this lad who are the blame, such a cop out to blame the bank for lending them money.
    PBH is a bit tougher than Joe, but still not tough enough IMO

    How does a mortgage work?
    Is it €1700pm x 40 years = €816000 ??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

    A chunk of that will be interest, so , taking some wild numbers, the mortgage he drew down say could have been for €600,000 and with it being over 40 years he'd pay a good bit of interest.
