Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In fairness, who's going to go to a Triumph dealer to buy a BMW or a Goldwing?

They shouldn't dick you around though, should just say that they won't take certain makes/models as trade-ins.

Trading in is a mug's game anyway as you will always get a better price selling privately and as a cash buyer of the new bike you are well placed to do a deal.

...a friend of mine, wanting to change to a BMW from a Harley, went to Joe Duffy on the M50 and saw the bike he liked. Duffy's rang H-D in Ballymount and asked them if they'd take it in a trade-sale, and for what price. With that number sales guy turns to my friend and puts the numbers on the table.

Friend rode K1200GT home that day. The Harley went up the M50 within hours.

So it's common practice it would seem.

Trade-ins have an advantage: you can trade now, you have a 'buyer' for your bike, and you get a warranty on the one you ride away on.

Private sales are slower, you have to find the 'buyer' and if you buy used it is caveat emptor. Not everyone wants that. We want the New One. Now ! We motorcyclists are a fickle lot. :) :pac:

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Your friend must have money to burn lol, by trading in to one company that in turn is trading on to another will always higher the price as he would have got a better deal if they took it in straight and sold it themselves.

Glad he got sorted in the end and was happy with the price.

He doesn't, he wants what he wants.

Didn't have as much luck shifting the K-GT. No-one would trade it at all. Lost his shirt on it. And broke his heart and wallet in the interim. ...

As a Tripumph owner(07 Sprint ST) myself, I can't criticise the build quaility, it is as good as the Japs...reliabillty, I've no issues. Holding there value....mmm, thats a tough one, I think in general, IMHO, the Irish bike buyer prefers Jap bikes. Or maybe it's down to the style of bike...in my own case, a comparable JAP sports tourer commands a higher value....
