Don't tan and don't burn much either to be honest even though I work outside a lot, just go a bit darker on my face and arms. I wear suncream all the time during hot periods though ever since a very unpleasant burning experience when I was child.

Milk-white apart from a less white (but nowhere near tanned) face.

I have a farmers tan. I also have white lines on both sides of my face from wearing sunglasses.

If people want a tan so badly why are they so against fake tan. You hardly want to get premature aging from the sun. There is fake than that doesn't stink and looks genuine so why not go for it if you want to look tanned.
    Also sunbathing is awfully boring.
I'm happy enough being white and it's alright :)

I am not tanned per se I am still fairly white but have a bit of colour alright not pale at least! :)

If you compare me to someone very tanned I am like i've never been out in the sun but I don't go out for long and stay in the shade as much as possible I try not to burn though I do sometimes so have as much factor and high factor on as possible and out only at certain times of the day. So not golden brown yet rarely have been so just build it up gradually but rather be white than have a tan to be honest no such thing as a safe tan!

This is me. Light tan, but not arsed getting a darker one.

Aparently I'm "very dark", I don't know what they mean but at the minute its just light tan (not brown or anything). I'd mix in with western europeans!

Getting a dark tan, technically means that your skin is burning. That's can't be good for you.

Yeah. I'd probably end up getting really burnt and sore if I tried :P

Somewhere in the Congo people are talking about how light skinned they've gotten from avoiding the sun for the last few weeks :)

I wasn't out very much and when I was it wasn't at high sun times and I was in the shade a lot too. I always use sunscreen, sunscreen doesn't stop tanning ofc despite what a lot of people think. Not being a fan of the sun helps mostly :P

I'm winter pale. Same as poster above me, I wear suncream when out in the sun and try and avoid hot (24+ for me) sections of the day.

Going on holidays to a cool country helped as well.:pac:

I don't get the obsession the Irish have about getting a tan. I like the light porcelain skin, I find it ethereal. They should learn to embrace that and now I see celebrities who have and they look gorgeous. Even though I got my mother's skin tone, an olive complexion and tan no matter how much sunblock I use or how I avoid sitting in the sun,

I spent most of my childhood in Italy and would witness my Irish relatives go all crazy in the sun trying to get a tan. Most looked ridiculous because they mainly turned red like a lobster. There was no nice tan, instead they got sun damaged spots and remained white. One cousin was really crazy and put no protection. Cousin was not able to budge one inch and was taken away to the hospital via ambulance.

My mother and her friends would avoid sunbathing because they were paranoid of getting premature wrinkles, freckling or developing that leathery skin that Donatella Versace is famous for. My mother slathers sunblock like it's liquid gold. She was adamant and obsessed that myself, brothers and especially my father did the same. My mother used the term S.I.S on my bros, father and other relatives. Her acronym for ****ty irish skin and a term she uses which turns as a warning sign as she is preparing to slather them with liquid armour.

Not too tanned but browned off

Proper shade of brown/tan here, not sunburnt like a boiled lobster. farmer's tan though. My arms look like a frothy latte, brown to whitish....... :(

I'm naturally tanned, so no need to go out tanning in the sun - which is just as well, I'm not a fan of the heat... :pac:

Far more tanned than I'd like to be :(

I dislike tans, particularly on myself. I much prefer my skin as white as possible, but I haven't been able to resist being outdoors during the last few weeks.

Now I've got tanned arms, tanned face, shoulders, arms, back and decoltage, tanned legs.... yuck.

It's going to take ages for that to fade again.

Not tanned at all with constant 12 hour shifts. I've only had 2 days off this month. Milk bottle white all year round for me.

    This tanned.

edit: The flash actually makes it look less but basically I have a ridiculous looking tan on my face, arms and neck. The rest of me is as white as Christmas. I've been wearing sun cream every day but that doesn't seem to actually stop you tanning. Is there no way to avoid it?
I've no problem getting a tan but this farmers tan business is not a good look :(

    Factor 50 reapplied regularly
Have a red stripe beside white skin where I missed a bit, works just fine

I was using factor 30 which I was hoping would do the trick but I've been out in the sun quite a lot with work and playing football and then golf is a killer for the farmers tan.
If I was to go somewhere sunny on holiday now and actually sunbath, would I still end up with a farmers tan as my arms and face would be darker or would it even itself out.

I still don't think it's exactly tanning most of us experience. I'm still really white, just don't like a crack addict in photos now!

I'm pale as snow so factor 50+ is what I need and if there was 100 I'd use that
wasn't careful enough with my face though
I suppose you could use a heavy factor on the tanned bits and a lower one on untanned bits?? duno

It should fade in no time anyway, unless we're lucky enough to get another few weeks of sunshine.

In this part of the world getting tanned is part of the life and when we have the chance we lie in the sun, even for hours.
Nobody cares about having a farmer tan, nobody think about skin cancer or almost nobody would get out in the sun.
Somehow we think that a tanned person looks more attractive (or even healtier) than a pale one.
Of course there's a number of people who prefer to stay white, but they're a minority.
It's quite interesting how different people see the sun and its effects in different ways.
Chinese, for example, avoid the sun and go to the beach with masks on their faces

I know yeah, but its not the word that matters its the meaning behind it. A black person from Africa might not know the term n***er but it doesn't take away from the scumbaggery of it.

Spanish people are also so racist themselves against Mexicans etc. but not really relevant.

    I'm quite sure they do...

To be fair, going to the beach and trying to avoid the sun is just weird. Why bother going to the beach if you dislike the sun, it seems kind of pointless. If it's just for swimming just go to a swimming pool like?

I'm an ethnic minority abroad (5% whites here)
Surrounded by dark folk and the girls are attracted to whitey.
So it's total sun-bloc for me.
Is sun-tan still attractive in Ireland?
    Thats so 80's.
    You living in Longford?

Just a quick update. I've still got farmers tan but now to complete the look I am sporting numerous cold sores around my mouth. Can't wait for winter.

I'm sallow skinned, my father's side is dark enough but Irish so I tan pretty good. Jolla at the person who gets mistaken for being Spanish! Same thing has happened to me though I'm still waiting for an actual Spanish person to tell me and not an Irish person! :P

If you can, Eden Hazard imagine Robbie ******* Williams I would be of his kind of dna.

Only less tall, and hairy and fat but it makes me cringe when dumb hoes in tacky clubs suggest I am like him and thats when i lose the head and start to resemble Mel Gibson

Very tanned on lower legs thanks to forgetting to put sunscreen on the one part of my body that was uncovered. And that was after one days fishing on a kayak last week! Rest of the bod is properly tanned but below the knees, it looks like I was walking barefoot through tar :(
