Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Swimming in a big group. Ethics

During a resent 2km swim I had a small problem with an other competitor swimming onto my back multiple times. At first I had no problems with this occurring as its common when order is being established at the start of a swim.As it tuned out we were evenly matched swimmers and at 1/2 a km we had some good open water as we were cruising at the front of the chasing pack of swimmers. This would lead me to believe that he was like myself a strong swimmer and well capable of swimming in a relatively straight line!! But for some reason he would sit on my feet for a bit then swim out to my right; until his head was beside the top of my hip; and the suddenly and sharply turn to the left!!? Ending up nearly fully on my back?? This as I said happened at least 7 times. I kicked hard and made contact but he did not seem to get the message..Would it ??As I did think to do be totally out of the realms of fair play etc..To for example ..pull hes goggles off or hit him a sly thump in the face..?? Just thought id ask because if it happens to me again I think ill go for the goggles!

He was drafting off you saving energy. Sorry but its tactics. If it were me i would have a quiet word in his ear when it was finished. If nothing changes with next swim go for the goggles as I would assume he would do same to you....

Oh btw, did you finish ahead of him?

tactical swimming, very much part of it. next time slow down and you draft off him instead.

As others said, it was tactics, he was drafting and saving his energy. The more experienced you become in ow racing you will become more comfortable in the situation. There are a few tactics you can use to get him off your body without resorting to hitting and grabbing goggles.

Kick hard, drafters do not like a strong kick to follow. Speed up for a few seconds and return back into your normal speed.
    Swim offline.
    Slow down and draft him.
Get him on your toes and stop suddenly, he will swim straight into your feet.

Hey...Ya I realize that swimming on somebody's feet is good tactics..; for some..; and have no problem with this. However the issue I had with this guy was he would as I said Draft me for a bit swim hard up on my right hand side and when hes head was at my hip/chest area he would "Sharply turn to the left" Swimming directly onto my back...This was my issue; he could draft me all day for all I care. Thanks for advise .
