The Galway - Moycullen section is being turned into a greenway/bicycle highway and there are plans to extend that all the way to clifden in future.

Galway to Moycullen is still a proposed development. Plans have not been submitted.

Oughterard to Clifden is to be converted into a Greenway.

An Bord Plenala have given it the go ahead subject to conditions.

and activate the 25" map layer (menu in the lower right) to see the mapping around 1900s (zoom to 1:5000 to see the mapped route).. afaik most lands along the route is private.. the project's being held up by one landowner who has three relevant parcels of land and who refuses public access to his lands, which is his legitimate right but it'd be a shame if the project can't proceed, here's hoping the local and county reps can sort it out.

May have to go down that route, hopefully not. Mayo Greenway is permissive access. That's why it is closed the 21st of Feb every year, reasserts their rights over the lands the greenway is on.

Then you get a lot more objections - if they see one person getting paid for it they'll all want the same...

AFAIK there are 3/4 objections - one from a prominent tourism business who must be the most short-sighted business owner ever if he can't see the boost to a tourism business a greenway would bring...

Good info on the Oughterard - Clifden stretch including objections but I take it these are resolved at this stage?

Are the objections to the Oughterard - Galway stretch public & available anywhere?

No its Glengowla mines that are objecting to using the railway embankment where it passes through their lands. They are not objecting to having the cycleway come through their property.

Would have imagined they'd welcome anything that'd bring people past their door...
