  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Daithi_2014

Are they building another motorway site closer to Gorey too?
When will that one be open?

  • Registered Users Posts: 375 ✭✭Reuben1210

The NRA are building that to be operated by a concessionaire, Applegreen (or Superstop, the Applegreen/Top JV that runs the other motoreay stations) I'm pretty certain have actually ruled themselves out from that.

I wonder is cullenmore services still on track to open this month. Havent heard a word since.

    Big billboard said june 2014.

They were starting to lay tarmac on roads into the site the other day and i see they have changed the road layout to give cars comming from the motorway junction right of way into/exiting the site and stoping traffic comming from the old N11/Cullenmore bends.

They have the gantries up over the pump islands and also poles for street lighting have been put up all around the site.

I will try and snap a few pictures of the progess this week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Daithi_2014

Sounds like its nearly ready then. Unless they change the billboards to July :)

Hope they have a suitable place to park bikes near the window.
I suspect this will become a popular coffee stop for all the weekend warriors riding up and down the Tour de N11.

Decent (relatively) price of petrol too. The stations in Ashford, and obviously Rathnew, are normally a decent price but still sometimes it can be hard to get into them.

Edit: Actually come to think of it, I think national average price for fuel is part of the contract.

WE'RE NOW OPEN on M11, Exit 14, exciting day @goapplegreen 'low fuel prices, always' @the pumps, Shop, Subway, Costa and BK Drive Thru & Restaurant & our very own Bakewell Kitchen!! Pop in on ur travels this Bank Holier Weekend!!

Called in today was fairly busy plenty of people about.
I found the signs of "L plates" with training in progress at the tills amusing
It has a nice setup and say it will do well with passing trade
Didn't know that the burger king is a drive thru as well until today.

Visited it today. This place will do business.

Very well set up. Very well laid out. Plenty of seating. Busy, but not uncomfortably so.

Once the few little creases get ironed out (talking to some customers and some of the food vendors ran out of certain items, the road layout going into the place could be slightly better sign-posted, etc.).

But all in all, this place looks impressive and seeing as the food vendors are open from 11:00am-01:00am (7 days a week), this is going to be a great amenity for the area.

    Petrol/diesel seemed reasonable too.

This will do "damage" to the garages in Ashford/Newtown, as well as the chippers/takeaways there too. Will probably have a negative knock-on effect on the Kilmacanogue garages too. But that remains to be seen.

They have been overpriced for years because there was no real competition. In my opinion this will be good for the consumer.

Visited it this morning too for petrol. Got myself a bacon subway for breakfast too, the subway is open until 10pm.

I didn't realise the BK there was a drive through! Wasn't open when I was there, but would say it would open mid morning.

The northbound/ ESSO has been around the going rate for petrol for a good while, but I'd agree before that they've been on the pricey side.

However, it's bound to effect the trade of both of the Kilmac stations - why would you queue the cramped stations when you can go a few miles down the road to the new one? It might solve the problem of vehicles blocking the entire junction at the northbound one by parking on the double yellow's opposite the esso (sure once they can get their coffee, who cares about the people trying to use the slip road?), which when the queue for petrol backs out onto the road means nothing can move coming from the R755. Also it'll be interesting to see does it reduce the kamikaze's coming out of the south bound station.

Hard to know how they'll effect Ashford and Rathnew petrol stations - they're normally ok prices, and most of their trade would be passing local traffic I'd imagine. Not sure (after an initial visit for a nosey) that local traffic will go out of their way to the applegreen.
