What would give you the impression that that scenario could ever play out? The status quo has been set with Kroenke for years now. It wont change.

The writing was on the wall when Wenger decided he was infallible. Were seeing the results of that now.

I didnt say it would happen, I said it should have. I fully understand that not in a million years would the current board put a penny into the transfer kitty.

It was fully the boards fault for giving Wenger the chance to seize so much control at the club. IMO it was the perfect storm and you are right
Were seeing the results of that now.

Just thinking, with the post limit, we usually have two or three threads a season. At this rate we'll be having about ten. Could easily end up with another new thread in early September.

Just a shame that it's 99% negative now which is a whole lot less inviting to read.

In fairness there not a whole lot to be positive about right now, if you can give me one reason I'd be amazed.

The club right now is a shambles.

Hard to argue with that, Wednesday is a huge huge test for us, lose that and its gonna be hard to attract the kind of players we should be looking at.
    Hopefully we can pull through...

Hopefully but I'm pretty nervous abut it yesterday's match certainly doesn't inspire confidence. Turkey is known for being a really tough place to go to and looks likely we could have a make shift defence and with no one to cover for Arteta our midfied looks very weak.

The club has a stable secure financial structure in place which is more than a lot of clubs can say.

The club is still playing Premiership football and are still likely to be there or there a bouts for top four again this season despite there being nothing to be positive about.

Fenerbahce had a disaster of a weekend as well: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2931/go-global/2013/08/18/4194949/fenerbahce-warm-up-for-arsenal-clash-with-disastrous-defeat?ICID=AR_RS_2

Always look on the bright side :)

I don't care about how much money we have in the bank it's no use sitting there the only thing I care about is seeing the club do well on the pitch. Having money in the bank doesn't give me much bragging rights over other fans ;).

The second isn't a positive I expect us to be challenging not battling for fourth every year. I was hoping and expecting a title challenge this year even if we didn't win but at least competed I'd be happy enough but that is looking less and less likely now. Unless they seriously pull of some major transfers very quickly but my belief that will happen diminishes by the day.

    Nice try though :p

Ok the Fernerache result does give a bit of hope :)

Shambles is too strong a word. If Rosicky (who had an otherwise great game) knew how to finish you guys would have won by several goals. It's not a total disaster. You have a good midfield, a great stadium and should go through against Fenerbache to the champions league. Calm down lads. And there is time left, new players will be bought. There are tons of positives.

I still think your defense needs work and is the weakest of the top 4 by some distance but I'm not going to win that argument in here as you still rate them even when they ship 3 goals against a team who don't score many. Mertesacker is just too slow to play in the high line that Arsene likes and it puts pressure on any defender playing with him. You need to replace him. It would make a huge difference.

It's hard to imagine winning another match ever again after yesterday but I'm sure we'll still get past the CL qualifiers. The alternative is unthinkable.

I know we missed a few opportunities to kill the game off with Rosicky and Giroud both missing good chances. I do think our first 11 is good but all summer we all knew we needed a CF and one or two other players to compete and it just hasnt happened the club have made a mess of the transfer window once again.

Thats were my frustration comes from we have left our squad threadbare to the point we might not even have a proper back four to put out on Wednesday night now. Which makes me fearful going up against Fernerbache.

New players will be bought but were off to a disastorous start that had the club acted early in the transfer window could have been easily avoided.

Only for the ref I'm convinced we would have drew that game

We need to replace per bigtime

    Quick question

If wenger was to go now who could we get. Lets be serious here

Utd prob the biggest club in the world had to settle for moyes (who I'm convinced will fail)

But won't be happening this season.

I don't want it to happen this season either
But next season it's a real possibility that I'm coming around too

Klopp out of our league I reckon

    Good call on laudrup

    If he produces this season

No. The man is probable in the top five in the world. He just needs to pull the finger out and swallow his pride a little.

Ferguson picked Moyes - hardly settling. He is a perfect fit for united I think and will go on to big things with them. Maybe not this year but in 2-3 they will be as they have always been.

Laudrup if given the chance would excel. Carries himself really well too. Klopp would be great just for his craziness alone! :D

    - We are being a bit harsh on Wenger/team at the minute I think because of this window and yesterdays match. He will hopefully get things sorted from this mess and see where we end up after the window is closed. The clubs management needs to learn from this window and be less naive when we get our opportunities for players again.

Yeh I'd imagine Klopp would be out of our league aswell sadly unless the board gave him some massive assurances which I couldn't see happening.

Besides Laudrup right now I'm drawing a blank unless the club promoted from within which I think could be a possibility with the club wanting to maintain the status quo of sorts.

In terms of money to spend we haven't.

We threw 40 mil at Liverpool based on sh*t info from Suarez camp. That's ridiculous carry on.

It's like they have never dealt with big signing transfers before and came up short with how to tackle the situations and where to cut their loses and move on.

We need another dein at the club to be decisive and to be clear with their intentions in the market.

In my opinion yes. He has been for a while. Tactically and his ability to change a game he has been suspect for quiet some time to be honest. His current antics are tainting his reputation with the club.

Realistically, we need at least 4 signings now. a center back, a central midfielder, a striker and a wide midfielder. I would like a gk aswell. 2 weeks to go.

Saying it ages we need a keeper, Cesar would be ideal.

Yeh and not just stop gaps either we need quality in all areas, players who can play now not young prospects or more players like Santos.

    Also I'm changing my tune

    We need a goalkeeper

    and a centre back
    and a defensive midfielder
    and a world class striker
and two or three squad players

it's been clear since the end of the last season that this team needed world class talent to be bought to even get a chance at winning the EPL. Wenger has only himself to blame for his sheer stubbornness at not wanting to buy big and go all out to prove his doubters wrong.

We won't get anyone but the usual Wenger dross with one or two good but not world talent signings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

    Begovic/Cesar
    Williams/Richards
    Bender/Fellaini
    Flamini (Fill the squad)
    Turan
    Rooney/Suarez/Martinez
Thats what I think we need, be lucky to get 3 of them now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,101 ✭✭✭NUTZZ

I have to say, watching Wilshere give his assessment of the game last night he looked like a man who had about a year left at the club before he abandons ship too, unless something drastic happens.

He will sign the usual dross Marty. he won't spend on quality it's against everything he stands for. This squad needs 6 signings, 4 of them need to be top quality/world class and two good squad players. So we have to spend over 100 million on talent in the next two weeks. Don't and can't Wenger doing that kind of spending.

Cesar. Richards, Fellaini and Martinez and two good squad players would save Wenger's job for a season and at least shows he's not lost his mind.

    We don't need so much.

We need backup to Arteta, backup for Per, and one world class forward. Maybe another wide man now Ox is out.

    Overall we need confidence.

I think we need someone to fight with Arteta for a starting place if we wanted back up should have kept Coquelin.

    Same goes for Per.

Certainly need another wide man rumours saying could be after Christmas before we see Ox.

and we certainly need a top class CF.

Way too much blame on Szczesny for yesterday with the disaster he had in front of him. That said if we do get a keeper, it has to be Begovic. Cesar is woeful at times

We need world class talent as well Gosplan. We need more signings then that imo. The squad is thread bare. Apart from the three you mention, we need a excellent GK, A CB and two squad players.

I don't think we should get our hopes up about signings over the next two weeks, at least top quality ones. I just think Wenger has his head in the clouds. Just get on your knees and pray to god, Wenger goes crazy and spends a load of dough on quality.

Nah, our first team is good enough bar a bit of quality in attack. All the results last year showed us this.

The problem is we've a few crucial players who are key to everything we do. We only play one way. That's OK provided you have backup.

We went through the summer with no backup to Giroud, Arteta or Per.

Wenger gambled and it backfired spectacularly. Admittedly, he was unlucky but it was his choice to gamble and we still have no idea why.

But no, I don't think we need a huge injection of amazing talent. We just need enough specialists to play the system the manager has decided.

We need a big overhaul, no doubt. There is clearly no real intention of that happening, as nothing happened in the last few months re transfers, bar getting rid of players. When I see how MU get a 4-1 result yesterday with a new manager and plenty left in the tank, I feel envious. Arsenal apart from some players appear insipid by comparison.

Carzola and Wilshire are those guys, playing them in the wrong positions don't help.
