Genuine question: If we get off to a good start in the PL, will Arsene buy at all?

It should be his job and Gazidis jobs gone if he doesn't. This is going to disillusion the majority of the support if we have a Groundhog Day season for the 4th season in a row and that'll be that for both of them I think.

You just can't ****ing carry on like that saying we have money we're going to make a big statement and then row back and say you're happy with the group we have and they should be enough when a retarded one legged chicken could probably tell you that its not.

How is no one going for Fellaini though? A relatively cheap reported buy out clause for a top player with loads of PL experience. Arsenal should have moved on to another target the minute Liverpool turned down the offer for Suarez but it would seem its part of the ploy so they can say to the supporters group at the next meeting 'Well we tried, but they just wouldnt sell'

United have moved for him in the past few days.

Sickener. We should have got in there while United were making eyes at Cesc and Thiago.

Did Frimpong play the Emirates cup at the weekend anyone know and was he any good?

Give that pic a rest it was mildly funny a few years ago now it's just old ;)

Going by a lot of people in here we should have bought every player reportedly available and all them fifty players would have been the perfect fit :p

Fans have been more than patient and reasonable. It's Arsenal's job to identify our needs, identify the players and make the bids. We're not doing any of that but our rivals are. 9 days to go.

I love Arsene and I am his biggest supporter but if he doesn't add to the team before the transfer window closes I am afraid I will have lost all faith in him, only a madman could think we can succeed with the squad we have.

    Arsenal Sanogo.

Do you think they'll get the extra point they need this season?

How many of them players have you seen play regularly?

From what I'm hearing of capoue he's coming off the back of a poor season which saw him loose his place in the French team. Doesn't sound like a great buy there a reason fcuk all clubs were in for him.

Well whatever about buying those particular players, we definitely need to add to the squad and we should be at the very least courting players of their quality.

I'm also a committed fan of Arsene Wenger's and if he doesn't strengthen and if he believes we are strong enough with our current side, I will wait to see the outcome and reserve judgement until then.

There was more clubs in for Capoue than there was for Podolski when we signed him.

Frimpongs injured and looks like he'll never make it at this level.

I'm a Wenger fan but hes very close to using up all the goodwill I have for him.
This summer has been a disaster in terms of recruitment so far. And I don't have much faith it's going to improve.

I think the injuries fecked Frimpong up first day. Other than that he had the raw materials.

    Moving for Willian next too.

We'll counteract that by annoucing a Will.i.am concert at the Emirates...

More money for the coffers that wont be spent. :D

Soldado mostly, chadli was cheap, and highly rated but concerns about his fitness, paulinho a Brazilian regular, Capoue is small money at ten or eleven mil.

All of them are better than Nobody.

Ha two very different sets of circumstances we had podolski wrapped up before the window even opened, capoue has been available on the cheap all summer and up until now Cardiff were the only club to bid for him ;) that should tell you all you need to know

Would I have liked signings by now yes; ) but is there still plenty of time yes.

There is no reason to hit the self destruct doom button yet, I'm sure if we sign a few players in the next couple of weeks everyone will be happy and all this angst
    will be quickly forgotten.

sanogo shouldn't be near the first team.

I hope to god Arsene gets players in. Even to plug the gaps
    at least

The quality available is beginning to diminish each day though. To be fair the players on our squad who finished the season are decent enough to push on but if they get injured we're up sh*t creek and its unrealistic to expect that we wont have injuries.

Anybody else thinking Arsene is playing a game with Gazidis after
his comments about our spending this summer and the available

I didnt see him play in the Emirates the weekend but what are you basing that theory on in fairness? He definitely seems promising but its probably unfair for us to judge him before he has gained any proper experience

If Giroud is injured, he's our striker. That's shocking.

After all the comments about the money we have available, if we don't actually buy anybody, i think it's safe to say it will be Wengers last season in charge.
The only way to come out of this alive is if he actually spends some money on proper talent and not take in some 26 year old reject from Schalke on a free.

Yeah its a good point tbf and would be unfair on the young man in all honesty unless by some rare chance he takes to the Premier league like a duck to water which is probably unlikely

Based purely on the fact that (as things stand) he's our only option if Giroud gets injured. He's the plan B. Obviously things change if Saurez arrives.

There's huge question marks over Sanogos fitness and I think he may be coming
from the 2nd division in France. Its a huge step up even for an experienced player.

I guess my point is (its getting harder to make them) that we DESPERATELY need a striker. We shouldnt be relying on young man.

Sanogo's finishing kinda reminded me of Adebayor. You know that edgy nervous type of shooting. Potentially due to his lanky legs though :D

Though his positioning was damn good.

It's fair to say this transfer window hasn't gone according to plan. I'm hoping it hasn't been for the lack of trying. One thing's for sure. There's absolutely no point in throwing our toys out of the pram just yet. The transfer window is still open and there's good time left to improve the squad.

Agreed. We have the money and we will improve the squad. We've a good team so improving it in a meaningful way will always be more difficult as you are shopping in an expensive/limited player neighborhood.

Spurs and City aren't finding it difficult.

If Giroud gets injured, there is no chance Sanogo is our backup. That's hyperbolic BS, but I blame that on all the other supporters that have been in here over the last few days who are experts at that crap.

If Giroud gets injured it will be more than likely (in terms of replacements, in preference) Walcott -> Podoloski -> Akpom -> Afobe and then possibly Sanogo, and even at that Cazorla or Ox might even feature well before that.

Yet I'm not envious of any of the players either have signed ;) if we sign Suarez he's better than any player either of them have signed.

  • Site Banned Posts: 26,456 ✭✭✭✭Nuri Sahin

Just saying, I know you guys were/are hoping for that world class forward, but there are other very good forwards out there still if you do (hopefully!) miss out on Suarez. Whether they're available or not is another question. Again, I know you guys were/are hoping for that world class forward don't get me wrong here.

I'm thinking of the likes of Osvaldo, Martinez, Barrios, Pellè, Doumbia, Sow, Finnbogason, Damiao and Lima. That's just outside of the EPL now. Of course some are more established than others, but it is a decent selection. IMO Martinez is the pick of the bunch and the one striker I'd love if Suarez does leave us.

Also, I gave my thoughts on Ginter the other day and while I'm not advocate of basing an opinion around a Youtube video (I can't stand people who do this!), although match compilations can give you a decent idea of a player on the ball IMO, this is the only highlight vid of Ginter out there and perhaps someone here will find of benefit.

edit - if meriwether does take up that bet with Rarnes, I'll throw €100 of my own money down as well if he's up for it :P

We need more than a top striker we need quality and quantity, were a few injuries away from a complete crisis

Blame Wenger and our Fan's for excepting his ways. It hasn't been working for him since 2005, yet we let him off every season since. He's never been a manager that's went out and spent big but we let it go in the past cause he was winning leagues and cups.

He's been our stumbling block to our team and only now do some Arsenal fan's have woken up to this. You can sprout that he get's us 4th every season. It would be far more impressive if he didn't have any money but the facts are this isn't Everton but Arsenal Football club. He has money and yet is so stubborn to be proved that you can win titles without spending.

I've always been a supporter of Wenger but last season selling Van Persie to Utd just showed how far Wenger and Arsenal have fallen. I think this summer was his chance to show Arsenal meant business but he's proven to have made a balls out of that.

    Why

    John Henry's comment ?
    Arseblog s tweet ?

    Chillax

We're after top quailty players, once we have a chance at these players I don't was us switching targets for second best

We have bought second best for too long

Lets try make these big deals happen, easy wrap up plan b type signings

So, looks like Liverpool have told Suarez to f off and train on his own.

Arsenal should drop their offer back down to 35 million and put a time limit on it, no way Suarez and his baggage is worth 40+. No one else is interested and it would be crazy of Liverpool to pay that lads wage while he sits at home.

Either push it through or forget about it now.

Two things I figure are true about Wenger.

1: He has no issues about waiting till the league starts or transfer deadline day to make his move. We always interpret this as a shambles or panic buying but it would appear that he doesn't mind it too much. I guess he has his reasons but the only one think of is stinginess - he can't be outbid if there's no time. In the past this was logical for Arsenal but with our budget now, it's a bit stingey. There are probably other reasons why he waits though.

2: He has his own Wengernomics version of value and a players worth. If you look at the Higuain episode, it's clear Wenger had a limit that he wouldn't break. i.e. something like 'Higuain will make an expected x extra income for Arsenal while costing y. If y is bigger than x, then no sale.'

I'm guessing he's probably right about this but Napoli through indirect oil money made the sale regardless of the worth. This mucks up Wenger's way if operating but as assured and stubborn as he is, I'd imagine he's sitting back in his office judging everyone else to be overpaying and economically unsound.

Overall, while he's a great manager, he's a pain in the arse when it comes to this stuff and always has been.

    Oh yeah, one other thing.

If we get any first team players (like Suarez) this late in the transfer window, they'll be coming from English clubs. Anyone from abroad will be a squad player initially.

I'd say if Wenger saw a player the team absolutely needed (like Giroud or Pod last year) he would have got them in from abroad early to settle in.

If there's any change to the first 11, it'll be Suarez and even then that won't happen till after his ban.

This is exactly it. The quality players are the ones that clubs dont wanna sell. That we have to haggle over price with.

I cant understand the meltdown in here last night. Nothin changed between the evening and night time but everyone started saying we are doomed!! Suarez is banned from training with the first team until he says sorry. I would have thought this was a good thing for Arsenal. Liverpool saying he is not for sale is BS. Suarez is gone from Liverpool. If we do sign him it will take time. Patience. We dont really have any injuries and the squad is good enough to compete for 3 weeks at the start of the season.

I think there was a bit of optimism floating around when the Suarez news surfaced on Tuesday evening. I suppose there's been a natural correction to that since.

I suppose the negitivity in the air regarding the lack of transfers may have alot to do with it but i have to say i am worried about the CL draw. There are some seriously dangerous teams in it. The "weaker" teams would be Metalist & Pacos De Ferraira. But if our heads arent screwed on them we could be in trouble and then the lack of signings so far will really come back and bite us in the a$$.

I think the sense of pessimism last night was also compounded by the fact by them up the road signing "another" player yesterday.

Arseblog's piece this morning would be exactly how I'm feeling as of now. 9 days before the season begins, and apart from an injury prone French second division forward with heaps of potential nothing to show for Gazidis' posturing earlier on in the Summer. Another disastrous transfer window. Still time alright, but signings should already have been made. Can see us not buying anybody between now and September 2nd.
