Well Finglas is about 1km closer so I may just take a chance and head there. You reckon people will actually be queuing from 11pm?

I will anyways :pac: People normally queue outside gamestop etc before that.

How strict are they with ID?

I'm 16, but look older haha do they really frown upon it seeing they let me pre order it in the first place?

I have a drivers license to show them but that won't do any good because it clearly states I'm 16 or will they bother try and find my DOB on it? haha

Tesco are notorious for I.D,they have an I.D everybody policy no matter what the age. (with alcohol and smokes anyway)

Gamestop might be a little more lenient, but i wouldn't bank on it either.

Just a quick question....for those that dont manage to get a copy today or tomorrow.....why cant they just buy a digital copy through xbox live or the playstation store?

I've never once been asked for ID in Tesco, and I buy most of my drink there etc, even when I was underage. They're supposed to have an over 25 policy, but I'm only 18 and don't look 25.

Sorry, should of stated it was Gamestop I was asking about haha.

Yeah I'm not too sure, they guy that took my pre order said he would be there if I had any problems and looked forward to seeing me back :D haha so I don't know what will happen tbh.

Haha, I'm sure you won't be the only one so. I'm trying to figure how a queue will work in Tesco though, considering the store itself doesn't close until midnight.

You need 36GB of free space to download and install it via PSN!

I had enough trouble freeing up 8GB so that I can install the physical disk =p

They told me they'll form a queue beside the entrance there where the butchers is for the game, I assume they'll just throw a few security guards beside the display stand and wait until midnight to let people get the game.

Ripping off is the term I use for companies who charge as much as they can get away with. I have no doubt you would charge even more if you could, its the likes of Tesco and Amazon that keep you in check. Just because on PSN its 65, doesnt mean I dont think you are charging more than you need to. I dont blame you for charging what you do, you can charge whatever you want, and if you have managed to secure over a thousand sales at that level, then kudos to you. At the end of the day you are in business to make money and you certainly dont stand a hope in hell of being able to compete with Tescos or Amazon.

The basis of my previous post was to highlight to all the concerned users that there was no need to panic about availability. If you read the thread, you will see that many other users have also posted about stock being available around the country. A person popping on this thread wouldve been terrified they would have no chance of a copy if they had not pre-ordered 2 years before the game was announced. You also explained about the time it takes to make bluray discs, I then provided proof of how long it takes. Here we are, a few hours from launch and its fairly clear that nobody will have a problem with Harvey Norman, Tesco, Argos and Smyths all selling the game tomorrow.

There really is not any point in talking about this much further, you have a vested interest and thats fine. Its like a clique in here, and I hear a lot of baaaaa baaaaaa baaaaaa.

Enjoy your extra sales, its great, God knows the country needs as many sales as possible before anyone else shuts down. Im sure it will be quite a buzz tonight, with everyone creating a buzz as midnight approaches. No doubt we will hear of a story where some act of violence was carried out as the last copies vanished form the shelves.....

So we're ripping people off because we're charging as much as we can get away with. (which we're not actually) Back to my previous example. Smyths - are they not charging as much as they could get away with ? Why are they different - at the same and indeed dearer price point than us - what makes us a rip off and them not?

I explained about the time it takes to make game discs, not blu ray discs. The "proof" you provided referred to blu ray disc manufacturing. I showed you the running capacity of a Sony approved factory was a lot smaller than this (presumably due to the anti piracy / security features that are not present in movie discs)

The only reason that nobody is reporting problems getting stock from Harvey Normans, Argos and Tesco is because they haven't taken bookings for their copies unlike us gamestop and Xtravision who did take bookings. We've sold ours to pre bookings, they will sell theirs to first come customers and then we will all be sold out. Whether or not you or anyone else gets a copy first thing tomorrow morning is irrelevant to the fact that there is not enough units available across the market to service demand for the first week at least.

" Just because on PSN its 65, doesnt mean I dont think you are charging more than you need to"

It's 69.99 - I ask you again. What is in your eyes a reasonable profit margin ? What is in your opinion the price point that would take us out of the charging more than we need to bracket ? There's obviously a gulf between what we need to make to operate a business / pay costs etc versus what you think we actually make. I'm wondering how big that gulf is.

I'd say there'll be carnage at some Tesco stores!

You say Amazon and Tesco are selling the game at a loss. Is that so? What is the wholesale price for a copy then? Could it be that you just made all of that up?

I don't work in retail anymore, Pat from Gamesnash could tell you the wholesale price if he wanted to. And yes Tesco sell it at a loss, it's basic supermarket pricing, loss leaders which are sold but generate extra revenue from it being in stores, absolutely standard practice in supermarkets. how many people are going into tesco to buy gtav tonight and will buy snacks, pizzas, drinks? for every 5-10 quid tesco sell GTAV below RRP for they'll just make the money back on other things. I'm not making it up as I used to be a buyer for HMV, used to see the cost price and margins on stock all the time.

I'm actually dreading tonight, gamestop (where i am buying it anyway) seem to be making this as awkward as possible.

They open at ten to stamp the receipt (why not just stamp it when it's paid in full or give it out at 10  ) and then giving the games out at 12 to god knows how many people.

I remember when Tesco Clarehall opened for the first time, and they did a special on Motorola Razor phones, the phone was 40 quid or something and you got 100 euro credit, and absolute bargain at the time.

Queues started at 5 o'clock that morning for the 8 o'clock opening, we rolled down to see about 150 people queuing already.

Then all of a sudden over the space of an hour, people start letting their friends join in the queue, and all hell broke loose.

We bailed as soon as the Gardai were called in, fights and everything broke out.

TL;DR I won't be going up to Clarehall tonight :pac:

Has anyone any idea how it'll work in Tesco? Will there be a queue section and each will get a turn to get their game until all are gone or do we just stand around until it's put out and then try your best get a game?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭Xenji

GameStop in Castlebar are not doing the stamped receipt thing if anyone is getting theirs there.

Ring each of them and ask how many copies they're getting in. Artane's only getting 45 of each format, but bigger stores might get more stock in.

    50 xbox 60 ps3 actually

I'll be there at the Waterford store if you want me to go up for you! (I'm serious by the way, I couldn't imagine going there and being turned away!)

Just look for the girl with far too many piercings haha.

There is no problem in people having different opinions. There is a reason more and more people are buying from Amazon each year. With the early release, I bet even more people will when the next big thing comes out. Battlefield 4!

Ah, was wondering why they posted "We recommend coming around 10pm." on Twitter. Is it the same method in all GameStops?
