    Hi!

Heading to Sligo for a week next week with the family (kids under 6) and was wondering what we could do. We have a couple of ideas as follows:

    Weather permitting:
Go to the woods - Slish Wood / Dooney Rock
    Rosses Point beach
    Mullaghmore

    Weather not permitting:
    Indoor childrens playground
    Swimming pool
Where Eagles Dare -they have an indoor show I believe.

Is there anything else we could do that would be fun with the kids?

    Thanks in advance!
    Loire.

climb knocknarea, go to the farmers market - (The IT, Sat 9-1pm)
Walk around the base of Benbulbin at barnaribbon,
Visit Kevinsfort Park or Doorley Park - park the car at the boathouse then walk back to the playground .. try some of the herbs near the excerise machines!

There are normally quite a few Fair Days and local music festivals with things like face painting and farm animals on show. Sorry don't have dates to hand, but I think Tubbercurry Fair Day is coming up soon and there is a Fete at St Anne's in Strandhill on August 5th. There is a fun dog show which the kids should enjoy.

There might be a link to Sligo Festivals and Agricultural Shows on the web? Some other Sligo Boards.ie might have more specific info for you.

Should be info in the local newspapers too? Hope you get decent weather. : )

Loads of things to do in Sligo, like one poster said climbing Knocknarea in Strandhill, Funnybones indoor play centre in Collooney, Markree Riding Centre in Collooney, Strandhill is good but you can't swim on the water, believe me you won't be short of ideas, enjoy and best of luck!!

I might check that out myself. Last Saturday I took my kids to see the swimmers emerge onto the beach at Strandhill after swimming from Rosses Point. They really enjoyed that. A great sight to see.

Edit: To visitors. I hope this doesn't give wrong message about swimming at Strandhill.

Swimming is a definite NO at Strandhill. And Paddling is also a definite NO at Strandhill. Although plenty still do. It's only a matter of time before there is another tragedy.

Mind you, a lovely walk across the dunes to the right of the Cannon, and across the end of the runway will take you to remans of Kilaspugbron Church and beach. As far as I know, this beach is safe for swimming as it is not affected by the rip tides on the main beach.

It's a great place for young kids to paddle and rock pooling. Go there when the tide is coming in, bring a picnic. It's has amazing views. We are indeed blessed in this county.

there was a great atmosphere at it last year, hopefully the weather will hold up for it .. have heard that 60% of the racers are doing this as their first triathlon so it should be interesting .. should be about 200 competitors

Loire - Kevinsfort Park (AKA Mitchell Curly Park) is a great playgound for your kids age group, Doorley Park is great for walking and cycling but the playgound would prob suit over 5 year olds

First of all, thanks for all of your suggestions. We had a nice break although the weather wssn't great (wasn't great anywhere else either). Actually went out to Hazlewood one day and it was lovely. Also went to the farmer's market in the Sligo IT but it was disappointingly small. Still picked up a great jar of chinese mixed spices and the kids got some gingerbread men biscuits so were happy.

Went for a lovely walk along Rosses Point beach one evening. The tide was fully in, the sun was beginning to go down and the sea was like a lake it was so calm. The sun threw a crimson sky and the whole thing was spectacular to say the least. The kids were happy too collecting the odd shell and seeing their first jellyfish!

Managed to get out ourselves one night and went to both Shoot the Crows and Hargadons and both were great pubs.

    Thanks again!
    Loire.
