"An error occurred sending mail: SMTP server error. The server responded:  EHLO requires valid address Contact your mail administrator for assistance."

The above error occurs on three separate email accounts today, when an outgoing email is attempted.
Incoming emails are received without bother.

These accounts have been working for decades.

No changes have been made to the account settings in the email client.

What needs to be done to get them working again?

    Hi Johnboy1951,

Are you connecting / sending via a different ISP provider?

    Thanks, Mark

No,  server name is either mail1.eircom.net or mail2.ericom.net
I am using Thunderbird client application.
Nothing has changed with the settings for years.

    regards.

    Hi Johnboy1951

Just to confirm the settings are as follows?

    Thunderbird (PC & Mac)
    • Open Thunderbird
    • Click Tools > Account Settings
    • Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the left menu pane
    • Highlight the 'mail1.eircom.net' SMTP server profile
    • Click Edit…
    • In the Port field, enter 25
    • Uncheck the box for Use name and password
    • Under Use secure connection:, select No
    • Click OK
    • Click OK

    eircom E-mail settings:
    Mail server type: POP3
    Incoming mail server: webmail.eircom.net
Outgoing mail server*: mail1.eircom.net or mail2.ericom.net

    OR
    Webmail access: http://webmail.eircom.net

*Note: If you are NOT using an eircom net connection, you MUST use your internet providers own SMTP server OR eircom webmail.

    Thanks, Mark

Settings are all correct .....  and have been for decades!

It must be something in the operating system causing this response from Eircom, if eircom have not altered any settings ....  it would be useful to know what might cause this error to be thrown up.

Any technical info you can supply would be useful.

    Hi Johnboy1951

I sent on the thread to managers in support and there have been some minor intermittent issues with some servers over the last week, However it did not result in the issues you are outlining.

I sent on your thread to support with the e-mail address we have logged for your username previously. Support said they will need to do some real time checks on the set up / settings over the phone.

I know it is not ideal but is it possible to call e-mail support on 1530 277 100.

    Thanks, Mark

    Thanks Mark,

I have done some checks here and the problem is definitely on my end.

It is not anything in the email setup as I have used the same profile in another installation with success .....  emails send OK.

So the problem is with this installation only .....  and any indication at what I might look at would be appreciated.

What is it that triggers this error message?

With that info I might have a chance of tracing the cause.

    Thanks.

Thank you that solved the problem.  :)   I be happy chappy  ;)

I had changed the machine name itself earlier today to see if that was causing the problem, but it made no difference.
Editing the Thunderbird entry did the job!

    Thank you again! :D

    Mark,
I see one of the three accounts mentioned has now been changed to the new webmail .....  the other two are still outstanding.

    Thanks for the help.
