VRT and converting to commercial

Does anyone have information on what the VRT situation is when importing a passenger 4x4 and intending to convert it to commercial?

I did this some years ago and the VRT was calculated at the commercial rate but I've heard recently that you must now pay the passenger VRT whether you're going to commercialise it or not.

The vehicle in question will be 1995 - 1997.

I can now answer my own question.....

Convert the vehicle to commercial and then present it to the NCT people for VRT purposes/inspection and you pay the commercial rate.

    No.

Wait till you get to the tax office to tax it as a commercial.
I read and heard before that they are doing this in motor tax offices nowadays...(vat number or buisness registration)...especially in Wicklow.....:pac:

NCT/VRT for VRT, VTC for test, both required before you can tax it.

You will need to get a "Goods Only" form ,RF111A filled up and then get it stamped by a Guard. You will also need to present one of the following with that form.
Commercial Insurance Cert, showing limitations to use
    Evidence of VAT registration
    Tax clearance cert
Copy of Notice of Tax. Registration
    or
Documents from Dept. Ag with your name, address and herd/flock number.

Crew Cabs need another form, "Crew Cab Declaration"

    This is what was required.....

    1 - Weight docket
    2 - Crew cab declaration
    3 - Tax clearance certificate
    4 - Tax application form (RF100)
5 - Insurance details entered on road tax application form (no need for cover note)
    6 - CRW from a VTN centre
7 - Road tax fee plus the rip off €6.00 to exchange your VTN CRW for the motor tax office issued CRW.

Number 7 above is being done away with and you will soon get a CRW pass/fail statement from the VTN and a windscreen disc in the post when your vehicle passes. Guess what - the €6.00 mentioned above is being added to the test fee and VTN centres will pass it to the relevant county councils.

I was also told to watch out for a levy from the RSA that is supposedly coming soon.
