The Guy wouldn't hand in a Transfer Request, so he wouldn't Lose a Few Millions, but is now going to Buy himself out for 12M?

    I highly doubt that.

I'm sure his new club would happily give him a 20m signing on fee if he did.
I think the player has to be over 28 and have just 1 year left on his contract? Not 100%, but that seems to be what this article is saying anyway...

    http://www.ibtimes.com/sportsnet/manchester-united-news-rooney-could-buy-himself-out-united-contract-next-year-1221545

That could be right, but I thought I read somewhere that we were looking at ways to get Mkhitaryan 25m to buy out his contract and we'd then repay him. Maybe it was just a clause in Mk's contract though.

Why not try offer Suarez to Atletico? CL qualified plus could work out cheaper for them (20m?) if they throw in Diego Costa.

I actually think he'd suit their team more than Real's

Financially, aren't they in a bit of trouble?

I think that can be said for the majority of Spanish clubs but didnt they sign Villa and on big wages. Not sure if they could afford to pay Luis on top of that.

We could always send him on loan to Napoli?

I can't remember the specifics, but I do know Atleti are in a bit of a financial mess and a lot of money that has been brought in through sales including the Falcao money which they only got a percentage (I've read anywhere between €8M-20M) of is gone to covering their debt.

Even with the CL money, I'm not sure they can afford the 20M you mooted for such a transfer. They can't even put together the money for Diego after all without selling Costa according to a few different accounts I follow.

Very much agree on Suarez suiting Atleti more so than Real though.

edit - Pedalstool beat me to it.

Nah, next up for a loan move is 'TBC'. We need to sign this new LB and then loan him to Rafa.

Ya know, Get Rafa to learn him

They also got fined 9.88m euro in Feb over TV rights. They appealed and lost (i think this loss only came out the other day). There are no avenues for another appeal. Believe they had up to 6m euro in assets held in respect of the case. But i think they can pay that over 3 years. Not sure what implications that might have for them.

Would have thought there are other areas of the team more in need of 12m investment. The last two LBs we were linked with were loan deals wren't they?

Whatever happens with Suarez, I doubt we will see an all cash deal. I'm guessing he will end up at Madrid/Chelsea with a player or 2 coming our way. Plenty of options :)

Real wont pay €100 million for Bale, looks like they may come to the table for Suarez now. Only problem is they are tight bastards when they want to be and will fob off any old players our way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,655 ✭✭✭El Inho

If we can nab two players from chelski or madrid I would be over the moon.

any of their big belgians, ba, mata...like anyone would improve our team if we could grab two of them and send off suarez...leaving enough in the kitty for maybe two defensive improvements.

We'd suddenly be sitting in a nice position to start the season. Wouldn't mind getting all this locked down asap though. Focus is key.

Suarez to Chelsea for 40m. Lukaku on loan for the season

Don't think I could stomach him at Chelsea, Mata would make it a bit easier though! Madrid I could do business with.

Realistically who could we get from madrid and who would come? These is all bs anyway because player swaps never really happen.

I just honestly don't think Madrid want Suarez.

They have their star sulky player in Ronaldo. I'm not sure if Suarez is a player they like.

There's more evidence that this is the case than there is that they're interested.

Though little evidence either way, so I could be wrong.

But don't take Madrid's interest as a given. Just because a transfer makes sense doesn't mean that the club will necessarily be interested.

This whole running to the media has done no one any favours. I think there is a strong possibility we are left with a sulky Suarez in September and he will have a big decision to make in terms of how he deals with it

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭jimmymal

If Suarez does not end up leaving i would like to see LFC leave him training on his own unless
    a) he apologises profusely, learns a bit of smacht, sacks his agent and offers up his first born to the kop.
    b) we get the right price for him in January after leaving him rot in reserves until then.

    The reasons being
a)To punish him for being such an ungrateful little ****.
b)To let any other player who thinks that he might force his way out of the club in a similar manner, think differently.

    On an aside;
In a crazy hypothetical world where FSG and Rodgers wanted to seek revenge a lá "Old Boy", is there anyway we could get a little bit sadist with the whole situ and force him to spend the year on the bench and then refuse to allow him to play in the world cup?

I don't agree with rotting in reserves. He's paid enough to play, let him train with them until his ban is up and if he's not up to first team action or refusing and unrepentant after that then fine him. If he apologises and is willing then play him.

    That's if he stays

I do like him, BUT not what I would be after, unless we got a serious amount of cash with him.

What aboot Coentrao? Think they want to get rid and weed need a LB.

TBH, they have sooo many of there players that would improve our starting 11.

Id imagine they will be getting rid of a midfielder with a few coming in this window.

Just my 2c but I don't see him wanting to move to us. Said the same thing about Spurs when there was talk of him being part of the Bale deal along with Di Maria, though there is the Villas Boas connection in regards to being his fellow countryman and thus that could tempt him.

I'm not entirely convinced with him LB neither tbh. He's a very good LW though going by his time at Benfica, and it seems we're looking to strengthen that area too. Kill two birds with one stone situation perhaps? I'd gladly have him either way though despite thinking he's a bit pants defensively.

Is the Costa bid dead ?

The club have no money to spend until Suarez is out the door.

Another other statements from the club to the contrary, are irrelevant.

The club were caught out by the fact only Arsenal came in for Suarez.

There was never any real intention of adding quality first XI players to the existing squad (should Suarez stay).

    Highly doubtful

    New corporate partners
New TV money with BT Sport
More than likely reduced wage bill with Andy leaving with other players
Money generated from trip to Asia and Oz

Theirs money their to be spent, and they bloody better spend it, we're missing 2/3 starters to the team, and need another 2 back up's. And we need them in 25 days. This is window is waiting on one big transfer to happen, before it all goes bat sh** crazy!

No, but it forms part of the 10 commandments of attacking Rodgers/FSG for a certain group of the more hysterical fans.

If they say it out loud enough times it becomes true.....

All evidence so far points to this claim.

People talk about Mhykitaryan, Papadopoulous, Costa etc... being targetted, none have arrived. So far all we have seen is a sell to buy strategy

Arsenal have taken some flak for targetting players to appease supporters without any genuine effort to close the deal.

We may be pursuing a similar strategy. Until Suarez is sold of course.

Read my previous posts last season and this summer. I've been one of the pro- Rodgers camp and argued vehemently in his defence.

I have also been one of the posters on here to call for time, in relation to calling FSG out over being too cautious.

I also fail to see where I have shown anti-Rodgers sentiment in my initial post. Theres not much he can do within the current structure in fairness in terms of spending money that is clearly not available until players are sold.

The club is too busy celebrating saving X amount per week off the wagebill. Anyone happy with this summer's business or indeed believe it shows the ambition of a club seeking to move up the table, are living in dreamland.

Obviously Suarez will be sold, that has been fairly evident for months, even thoiugh we might have tried to fool ourselves.

You have constructed another ridiculous situation where the manager cannot or is unlikely to satisfy to confirm your own bias.

    Complete non sequitor.
