Its exactly what they will do.

This whole sorry mess has been the perfect smokescreen.

Come the match against Stoke we'll have signed nobody and our best player will be watching us from the stands. I'm not looking forward to this season one bit.

After hearing what Rodgers and Henry are saying this morning, it looks increasingly likely that LFC are going to hold him hostage for a season ... are they really going to do this? Does this not unsettle things in the dressing room? And would it not harm LFC's reputation in terms of other players considering moving there in the future? The whole thing is very damaging IMO.

Unless the intention is to bench him till January and then sell him to a foreign club, or Arsenal even. Really can't see Suaraz playing with any kind of passion after this.

But if Arsenal take their 40 million and spend it elsewhere before the end of August, they've still damaged LFC's Champions League hopes for next season by taking Suarez out of the equation.

LFC have done this to themselves by not strengthening their first 11......we knew Suarez wanted to leave long before Arsenal bid.

IMO, they should sell him for 50 million, take the money and spend it elsewhere. Whole thing reminds me of Febregas and Arsenal.

Problem is, no one has offered 50m and its looking increasingly like no one will this window anyway.

The problem is no-one has come in for a bid that size.....if RM came in at 40 mil i'd sell....but they haven't....only Arsenal have, and we shouldn't sell to Arsenal........fine, if Arsenal have 40 mil to buy a striker, then let them, but we can't gift them a proven goal scorer, let them find their own.

May mean nothing for Liverpool but
Marca: Player left out the squad a move to Liverpool is imminent

According to the Marca, Guilherme Siqueira is being left out of pre-season matches because a move to Liverpool could be imminent.

Granada don't want to risk serious injury to the player so are wrapping him in cotton wool right now, just in case he's needed to dash off for a medical.

Marca say it appears the end of Siqueira's time at Granada will now come and Liverpool are the only club mentioned as a remaining interest. Therefore, this is certainly one for fans to keep an eye on.

Did it damage United when they kept hold of Ronaldo or Spurs when they kept hold of Modric for an extra season?

Arsenal wont spend 40m on a player not this summer anyway. Wenger will do his usual, spend 40m on 5 or 6 players and hope one of them works out.

As for Suarez staying and how he plays...who knows....the guy is a head the ball.

Real Madrid have ended their pursuit of Guillerme Siqueira as they deem the asking price is too high. (Marca)

Also says they'll go after de chelgio instead, if the asking price is too high for them then it surely is for us, but if they are after a lb then coentrao is surely off?

We really need signings now, our net spend is practically zero, if the owners have any intent of bringing us forward theyll let us spend more

I expected 30-40 million in this window, I'm beginning to worry about FSG. I really hope they have 2-3 signings in the works.

If that is the case it wont be a bad window it will be a shocking window. If we do not sign players it's difficult to blame Suarez for wanting out.

Im heading into the game today and I look forward to seeing the new guys but lets be honest, they are squad players at the moment.

It's been said many times by numerous posters, we need 2/3 starters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,534 ✭✭✭joe123

I think everyone would agree that it will be a terrible window if no first team standard players are signed.

Sure we have strengthened the squad, but its looking like our first choice CB is going to be a free signing. We are in bad need of another defensive midfielder in case lucas gets injured or his form drops.

I think we all expected a major signing to slot straight into downings position that could also play as a striker if needed.

We are pretty light if we get injuries too. All we need to do is compare our window to Spurs and the contrast is really worrying.

Paulinho and Soldado are two top class signings. God I would have loved Soladado at the club.

Probably clutching at straws here but could that not be brinkmanship, pretending you're no longer interested so they lower their price? What are Athletico's finances like, do they need to sell?

Yeah our new policy is to make one bid and not to follow up. All first bids get rejected but it seems FSG dont want to get into a bidding war.
Hence we will have no major signings this window

If you can't get the right players in then you should wait until the next window, or next summer to spend.

There seems to be a shortage of realistic/decent value targets at the moment.

Too many people (and this goes for fans of all clubs) are too fixated about the season just ahead and forget about the long term.

If you spend 50m on just any players you can get, you'll improve the squad and first team for the season ahead but there'll be no guarantees and it'll come at a cost in future seasons when more ideal targets become available and but have no room for them in the squad/not enough money to sign them.

There have been plenty of decent players available, and still are.....i'm still holding out for Eriksen :o

Maybe, not signing anybody to address defensive weaknesses last season would make this window as bad as last Summer. The window started of looking promising but looks increasingly disappointing as it goes on.

I think obviously there are times where you must strengthen in a position no matter what. A cheap stop gap is preferable if the right player isn't available. I think spending £20m+ on Costa would've been madness.

The problem with that from a Liverpool point of view is that the longer your out of the champions league, the less attractive the club becomes to both players and sponsors, thus making even harder to recruit high quality players in subsequent windows. It all feeds into a circle of decay and decline.

About identifying good value/quality players, I don't think recent windows have been particularly bad in terms of available targets. Maybe there has been a tenancy for inflated prices for the very top bracket of players, fueled mostly by the tendency of PSG, Monaco etc to get in dick measuring competitions, but below that I'd say most people on this forum could name several players that are affordable and could improve our first team.

Arsenal seem to have had a similarly bad window to us, well worse actually, but Tottenham have had no problem identifying targets to improve their first team at decent prices.

There are players out there - Eriksen & Alderweireld to name but two who would strengthen us, and you wouldn't have to move heaven and earth to get them. Less than €25M combined for both! Latter was on the verge of joining Norwich for €7M FFS! Meanwhile Eriksen has sounded out Liverpool in the past, Agger and Molby have recommended him to join and is known to be available for around €15M! It won't be an excellent window whatever way we look at it, after all we missed out on our top 2/3 targets, but it'd be a good - very good transfer window if we signed both Ajax lad.

I could name cheaper players who I'd love to have here too, but I think the majority would be happy with the above.

Only issue with Eriksen is goals. It's quite clear Rodgers wants a midfielder/wing forward who can provide 15-20 goals a season. While I like Eriksen, I'm not sure if he can provide this for a season or two and I think that's another reason why we haven't made a move for him already.

Leaving it so close to the end, Rodgers and FSG might be backing themselves into a corner if things go pear shaped.

90 something pace in fifa. Most frustrating player to play on UT. :p

Other than that, havent a notion about him. He signed a 5 year contract season gone by though and I think came out and said he wants to see out at least 2 years of it at Udinese before moving to a bigger Italian club (who previously had interest in him)

23 days left in the window, with Downing on the verge or leaving, as well as Assaidi, we need two more attacking players before the winder shuts, and also a left back and a center back. After all the talk of wanting to get all our players in at the start of the window, we get four squad players (apart from the keeper) and added nothing to our starting 11!

Unless Spurs lose Bale and don't spend the money, Arsenal buy nobody, and United fall on their arse, their is no chance of reaching top four with the squad we have at the moment. So we need four new players in, with 5 if Skrtel leave. Suarez has been a bad distraction this past while, taking up too much time, when the club should be focusing on getting players in to give us a chance of knocking on the door for top four

Rodgers said 3 days ago that we were after 1-2 players for cover and 1-2 players for the attacking areas.

Just because he said yesterday that nothing is close doesn't mean we aren't going to buy anyone

If we don't sign 2 players I'll be bitterly disappointed
