Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

People disagree hugely on simple things and say many silly things.

But this is the second time you have used retarded to describe people who disagree with you.

I am starting to take exception to your use of language that isnt/shouldnt be tolerated in ANY discussion.

A small touch of cop-on would not go astray here!!

I don't think anyone here was described as that if you read the post you quoted

No, he said the idea of loaning him was retarded.

I had heard a rumour that Olympiacos didn't want ex players to take part as they wanted to use the game as part of their pre season.

In fairness on 'this' occasion he wasn't outright calling us retarded so much as he was the owners if they loan Martin out. The rest of the time tho....

So Sterling looks to be going out on loan now to WHU

Must have got some pay rise last summer :)

Did I not just read a glowing praise from Rodgers about him and this season coming?

I'm confused. really confused.?.cant be true.

    Where you getting this from?

I think Sterling has a big part to play this season. I'm expecting a big season from him.

Would be surprised and not happy if he went out on loan

Lads, I disagree with 90% lately of what Alan says here but I don't see why people here are getting up in arms about the word "retarded".

Firstly he didn't call anyone retarded and secondly the word is not an offensive word.

If a person is retarded then that's what they are.

For anyone interested, the new second captains podcast has an interview with Tony Barrett about the current situation at the club. Haven't had a chance to listen to it, might be interesting tho.

Sterling looks likely as hes been tweeting Ravel Morrison and hangin around with him, and David Sullivan's son has tweeted about signing a young exciting player in the next 48hrs

It is an offensive word. I wouldn't be too fussed on how he used the word in that context as it was indirect and not personal, however you would hope that even those with the most tenuous grip on reality would understand that calling someone retarded is offensive.

People weren't, 5live was he just chose the wrong post to pull Alan up on his condescension. He's called or implied we're all retarded plenty of times this just wasn't one of those times.

As I said already he didn't call anyone retarded but the idea and people need to stop being so precious.

I'm sure you've called people a gobsh1te or an idiot at some stage and there's not much difference.

Different words are offensive to different people, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Its the whole useage of the word directed at anybody that get on my goat.

Its in the pic of the words not permitted for use by any players in the club.

I spend some time working with special needs adults and words like that being acceptable in any form is frankly unbelieveable.

Did you actually manage to read what I said? I said I wasn't too fussed in the context that he used it, i.e. non-personal, but when directed at a person it is an offensive word. Put your pre-planned argument back in it's little box.

No, it is categorically not the same as idiot or gobsh1te. This really isn't the thread for it, so we'll leave it there.

For this reason alone, this should never happen!

I don't believe it anyway, I think Sterling will have a big part in our season.

I've actually no problem with Sterling going on loan if he's going to get first team football all season at somewhere like West Ham. I just didn't think we had the squad to allow it to happen. If true we must have some serious signings in the pipeline!

How would you feel if we are loaning Melgarejo from Benefica and playing him on the LW in place of Sterling?

Loaning Sterling to West Ham is madness. We shouldn't be strengthening a team in direct competition with us for 7th place.

Rodgers is the one bringing up "experience" and "thin squad" lately, so he is either talking through his hoop or actually believes it. We will be losing Carra/Reina and probably Skrtel. Thats 3 experienced players at the back. Coates is not favoured and Wisdom is too young yet. Toure hasnt played much recently and is old himself. Given the amount of money taken off, i would consider Papadopoulos an absolute must (if its to be him coming in), not just a signing/first team player. Id argue we need one more CB at least. Put it this way, do you think its wise to possibly hold back on a possible addition to help out because you just cant shift Coates?. Imo the club has to be pro-active and not reactionary. If we are going to live in an existence like the one you say above, i dont believe that to be 'luxury' i believe thats a 'sell to buy' ship we are sailing on.

Well we have added to the squad, we have more options than this time last year and we've no EC now. As for experience, fat lot of good it did for the back 4 last year. Gerrard and Carra added experience, Skrtel was very poor and Agger just okay for me. Reina was poor for over half the season.

I'm assuming Papa will be in or similar plus at least 1 more first team signing. 3 CB's options would be gone, Carra, Skrtel and Wilson, I haven't read much about Coates and was thinking maybe he'd get another season, I'd find it hard to believe there'd be no interest in him. Wisdom did very well last year and I see no reason why he shouldn't be used in cup games at CB, to build on it, otherwise it might end up wasted.

As for proactive, I'd see signing Mignolet as proactive, not reactive. Selling or loaning Skrtel is hardly reactive either if they are getting a better replacement. I just don't see the point in keeping players like Reina and Skrtel if one was likely to be leaving soon and the other doesn't seem to suit the manager.

    Me too

He is no value at 85 million and they will probably sign 2/3 class players.

Only thing is, like us if we sold Suarez, they might find it difficult to attract the top-top-top calibre of player.

Yeah but money they'll pay for the players will be massively inflated so the value for money will be poor.

I'm not so fussed about Sterling leaving if the rumour is believed to be true.
I think Ibe will take the step up to Sterling spot and not require as much guarantees of first team action. I think that Ibe is also a bit more polished that Sterling, physically bigger, probably better control on the run, better finishing and probably level pegging in the crossing passing dept.

That will leave a place open for a new right sided signing like Atsu or the other lad with the 'every letter in the alphabet' name that was mentioned earlier today.

In relation to Reina. We have signed what I believe to be a much better keeper, not fussed about the move at all.

The Mirror has improved drastically. And Barrett is the club's lackey. He wouldn't dare report anything that would brew this kind of sh!tstorm. It might be nonsense but don't assume it's not just because it's not in The Times.

Barrett being the club's lackey is extremely harsh. From everything I've read by him, he seems pretty reasonable and unbiased.

On top of that I'm almost positive he was one of the first to break the Reina to Napoli on loan story.

But even with all that, I don't think I could ever take the likes of the mirror and F365 serious... they write far too much ****. Write enough of it and of course some it bound to stick.
