What the heck is going on at Bolton? Rock bottom, 3 draws and 5 losses

Just a bad start, albeit a very bad one! They need to sort out the defence, shipping a lot of soft goals. They have genuinely good defenders - Zat Knight and Matt Mills are two of the best centre halves in the division. The likes of Wheater, Mears and Baptiste all have Premier League experience. One win and their confidence will pick up.

Northampton Towns hangover, from the horror show play off defeat goes on, as they slip into familiar territory of the relegation places in League 2. Aidy Boothroyd has assembled a squad, all his signings now bar one or two, which is significantly worse than what they had already. Still early season but it doesn't look good so far.

Since he caught on and had a decent time at Watford, he's been nothign short of awful. Does he still endorse hoofball?

Crazy start for Leyton Orient. 8 played, 8 won, 23 scored, 5 conceded.

Now, knowing Orient they will lose the next 8 on the spin, but that does not make the start any less impressive if it does happen.

10 points clear of 7th, 20 points clear of relegation.

Ill still not say Os are going up, but I certainly would not bet against Os in the play offs.

He heartily endorses hoof ball! , and ultra defensiveness away from home. Miserable stuff this year, continues to pick a couple of players, completely out of form, it looks like, to spite the fans who can't stick them

Massive game at the City Ground tomorrow, Forest v Derby in the East Midlands derby. Live on Sky Sports 1 @ 12.15.

Our record against the Sheep since 2010 is poor so I'm hoping for a change of luck. Gonna go for a 1-0 to Forest with Andy Reid scoring a 25 yard screamer just like last weekend :)

Very solid start to the season for Bradford after promotion. Looking positive for the future for the first time in 10 years+

Wasn't expecting a result today for the Shrimpers away at Oxford. Especially with a couple of key injuries. Lovely stuff.

Cobblers win away, still in relegation place but point off safety.

    KIT MAN CATASTROPHE

Brent Pilnick from BBC Radio Devon reports that Mansfield Town have forgotten to pack their kit, and will be wearing the Torquay United away strip for their League Two clash.

It seems another person has joined the kit man hall of shame, after a Millwall employee made the same mistake in their 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday in August.

    LOL. Sponsors wont be happy.

Cobblers fail to win again, still point better than nothing. Remain in bottom 2. Have a good few Irish players in the squad now, 5 at present, of varying quality.

10 wins from 12 games with 2 draws, unreal stuff. Themselves and Peterborough are already clear of Wolves in third. Peterborough are having a great season too but it is getting unnoticed because of the O's unbeaten run

Can't wait for Orient to blow up in the next couple of months.

The collapse is on! skyblues beat them 3-1

The Posh drew and Wolves won so its all tightened up nicely with Wolves a game in hand (with their budget they must get promoted)

We lost to Daggers so can't gloat too much.

Sickened. Cobblers 2 - 1 up at Rochdale going in to 88th minute and lost 3 - 2. Played well too apparently. Worrying times when you see how hard the conference is to get out of. Still in bottom 2. Worse start for 30 plus years now. Thats bad when you consider how many times we used to finish bottom in the days of seeking reelection.

Former Rovers & Cork City striker Dave Mooney missed a penalty for Orient. Don't think he'll be taking them again as he missed another one at the weekend!

Sheffield Wednesday still haven't won a game. This is ridiculous at this stage.

    11 games
    0 wins
    4 loses
    7 draws

Neither have Bristol City. They haven't won in 21 league games between this season and the end of last season!

Boro have only won 5 games in all of 2013

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Boro has been absolute cack since relegation from the PL 4 years ago. Neither Strachan nor Mowbray could get them playing. Makes you think it's down the players. Truth is they have an average squad with a very disillusioned set of fans - attendances were scraping 10k for some league games at the Riverside last season.

My boss put Forest and Carlisle in his accumulator on Friday. Two sides going well recently. The opposition were Yeovil - no win in two months and bottom of the Championship - and Bristol City - no win in their last 21 games stretching back to March. I warned him not to back it, because of the fickle nature of League 1 and the Championship in particular. And of course Yeovil and City duly won!

It's true what Billy Davies said after the game, league position or form means nought in The Championship. It's such an unpredictable league.

Burnley look unstoppable. Not a great week for our own Richard Dunne - was at fault a Millwall goal last weekend, got the runaround from Ings & Vokes today and missed a sitter to top it off.

Forest had 63% possession and 27 attempts on goal, we didn't do a whole lot wrong really. Simon Cox missed a penalty, a tame effort easily saved by Wayne Hennessey. He missed the bloody rebound too! Lansbury would have taken it if he wasn't suspended, how we missed him yesterday.

Anyone wanting to share my misery this season can watch Northampton Town in 1st round of FA cup on ITV on 10th November. Away to Bishops Stortford and I would imagine it hasn't been picked for the Cobblers silky skills, rather the big possibility of an upset.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Good tie to watch in any event.

Cobblers bottom of the league. BOOTHROYD OUT now ffs. Actually hope Bishops Stortford win if it hurries things up.

Just a bump to remind aficionados of hoofball, Northampton Town will be battling the giants of the Skrill South, Bishops Stortford at the ProKit UK Stadium, live on ITV from 1.30pm. Depending on who gets permission, it will give you a chance to see squad players who cant get in their own team from the likes of Brentford, Bradford, Leicester and Peterborough. Northampton, we have more loans than Wonga.

Decent chance of an upset, though I recant my not minding a "shock giantkilling" and will be hoping the Cobblers stick 5 or 6 past them, since it appears Boothroyd must have pictures of the chairman in compromising positions and is clearly unsackable.

If it makes him feel any better, none of the Northampton Town players are wearing poppies, on national televison, shock horror, plenty of faux outrage on my Twitter timeline about it.

Hopefully! Think we have found our level! We deserve it though, much the better team so far.

    Uh-oh.

    Edit: Phew. Into round 2.

Edit 2: Northampton have a glamour tie away to either Grimsby or Scunthorpe. (Two of the grimmest places on earth?)

Fantastic result for Brackley Town of Conference North last night, beat Gillingham of League One in 1st round replay of FA cup. Were unlucky not go through after original game so thoroughly deserved.

Another day, another away day defeat. Northampton Town comfortably nestled at the bottom of the football league.

Whats going on at the Posh? They were very solid but have gone on a hideous run from 2nd the 5th very quickly with 5 defeats.

Wolves and The Os have opened up a gap now - 8 points from PNE 3rd

Delighted the wheels have fallen off at Pish, long may it continue and hope they get relegated again.*

Think they will probably still get promotion this season but with regards to their problems? Selling their best players, Barry Fry is probably more trouble than he is worth there and the Chairman probably isn't there as often as he used to be to keep things running smoothly.

*Said with a bitterness of years of looking at our traditional local rivals being way better than us for donkeys years!

Barnet won their first away match on a Tuesday since 2005 yesterday, a comfortable 2 - 0 win at Dartford.

The Bees seem to have reached a certain level of consistency and are hard to beat. The 2 - 1 loss at Grimsby at the weekend was our first in 8 matches.

Included in that spell was a 2 -2 draw at home to runaway leaders Cambridge which we completely dominated despite going 2- 0 down. We scored a perfectly good goal at the death which was incorrectly ruled out.

The main problem is that too many games are being drawn. Need to win
more of those games to be play off candidates. The squad should be capable despite Edgar David's somewhat laissez faire attitude to the whole thing.

Such a hard league to get out of, as Luton can testify. Fear for the Cobblers if they go down, looking at all the former league clubs there, and looking at Stockport County, struggling even more in the Skrill Conf. North.

We got planning for redevelopment of the ground to 10,000 last night which is great and all, will be a lovely 3/4 empty stadium in the conference. Sums up our season when a 0 - 0 draw away is described by the manager as near perfect (whilst we remain bottom of the football league)

I was at the very first game at Sixfields. A 1 - 1 draw with Martin Aldridge (rip) scoring a spectacular over head kick and Dougie Freedman equalizing for Barnet. Good game and atmosphere.

Cobblers out of the FA Cup, against Grimsby. Although reading the post match quotes from Boothroyd you would think we were playing Real Madrid. Here's a couple of crackers.

"I would have been happy to have got a draw and take them back to our place."

"This was going to be a difficult game from the start. We set out with a gameplan to frustrate them and break on them"

    Grimsby FFS.

Hooray! No, Northampton didn't manage a win, and are now bottom of the league for Christmas but thank fupp, they have sacked Boothroyd. Whoever takes over that squad that he assembled has their work cut out to keep them in the football league. At least there is some kind of chance now.

Derby County looking really good now 6 wins on the bounce. Shteve back in the Prem before too long?

No one can be arsed to try and put their foot down in League One. At one point it looked like a breakaway was occurring but its tightening back up again.

Hate saying it but I think Schteeve will take them all the way to the Prem. They had been underachieving for the last 4 years under Clough. It didn't work out for him at Forest, tried to change too many things at once, learned his lesson & is putting it in play with Derby. They're playing lovely football, the second goal against Doncaster yesterday was terrific to watch.

Wigan & Blackburn are the two other sides to watch out for, think both will be top 6 come May.

Cobblers 4 points adrift of safety, yet another defeat. Going down into the conference with a 10,000 seater stadium in the offing. Mad to regenerate the stadium for the non-league.
