He has really been through the sh1t
I've a friend gearing up to do this, nothing on the scale of Ivan but if he doesn't he'll be in a grave. At least seeing someone coming out the other side helps.

The difference between Ivan who has taken responsibility for his actions and someone like George Mordaunt (Taking care of Business, RTE tv)

If they went easy on him, there'd be accusations of favouritism, if they go hard on him, he's being made an example of.

The banks are leaving people no choice but to follow his lead.

I hate people knocking Ivan for tax, he paid more tax than probably everyone posting here today.

EU Law may allow for what you have done Ivan, but the reality is unless you have sufficient cash reserves to live in the UK for 12+ months and have untouchable assets here to return to it's simply not an option for the vast majority.

I have always admired Ivan's honesty. But business is always a risk. He bet and he lost. That's the way it works. He should know that better than anyone.
I hope he gets going again, though. He deserves to succeed.

He seems to have paid off as much as he possibly good using savings and wages etc. Doesn't feel the world owes him a total write off like George.

You have not lost everything Ivan
You still have a taxpayer funded pension, a well-paying job, your health, a wife & family, a roof over your head etc

Yup. He loves the discerning listeners who text in and whack him off. Unfortunate choice of words.

    Worse, he was in Wales.

Also..... the guy lost almost everything.... he dealt with it in a legal way.

    He wants to start again.

    Good on him.

Better than some attention-seeking hunger striker demanding the world owes him debt clearence.

So why didn't he answer the lady's question then?

I always find it hard to have sympathy for a bookie who goes bust.

Yeah I agree, Harry.. It's not like he was running a service that contributes positively for society.. It could be argued that because Celtic Bookmakers closed down, a lot of money is going back in to working class families.

Well whatever one thinks about Yates handling of his situation, it was done within the law and just listening to him reminds me of what "Breakfast" has been desperately missing.
