Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does Pat ever interview Republican or Conservative guests?

Constant Trump bashing and Democrat love-in is withering.

Both sides are awful to be fair but it's so one sided it's just repetitive moaning at this stage.

Its not just Pat, the Irish media have been Trump bashing since he got elected, 4 years on and their bitterness that their girl Hilary didnt get elected still festers

And talking about an election that isn't for 4 months.

I can't think of any other country including our own where radio programmes would discuss an election this far out.

Catherine Martin doing herself absolutely no favours here. Her deflection/unwillingness to answer the question about American tourists entering the country was embarrassing. Minister for Tourism leaves a lot to be desired

She was fairly bad alright,,,I was amazed when she immediately spread the responsibility to 3 other ministers..doesn't bode well for her tenure, sounds like she will avoid owning anything that is her responsibility.

Any green member listening to that cannot possibly consider her as a replacement for Ryan.

It's not that Hilary didn't get elected, it's that Trump is a spanner.

It not bias or an agenda or any of the other bullshìt.

It's that the leader of the free world is a spoofer and a lowlife.

That's why he gets the coverage he does.

It might have just a tad to do with the unmitigated sh*tshow his presidency has been and continues to be.

So it's not just FF, FG, Labour that talk the talk in opposition but then roll over like puppy dogs when in Govt. All too predictable

This isn't America, where opinion is somewhat divided. The only place I have ever encountered support for Trump is online, or among lads who just think he's hilarious.

A poll carried out by The Times Ireland found that eight in 10 Irish voters believe that trump is doing a bad, or very bad, job. 10% think he's doing a good job.

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/election-2020-irish-voters-take-a-dim-view-of-trump-and-johnson-r7khqf5m6

There probably is a niche for some very small Irish media media platforms to monetise that minority support in Ireland, maybe Leo Sherlock's blog, or some ex-journalist conspiracy-theorist on Twitter. But it just isn't a mainstream view here, as has been repeated in other polls.

In Pat's defence, he does read out the pro-Trump texts accusing him of bias, but I wonder how many of them are coming from the same group of disgruntled listeners.

And Trump feeds off this. They are playing into his hands and they know it. It's outrage ratings. Trump has been a godsend for ratings.

And the funny thing is Trump is no different to the rest of them. He just doesn't care to hide his scummy behaviour.

What's even funnier is you have to go all the way back to Jimmy Carter to find a US President that started as many wars as Trump.

How many wars did Trump start.

"the state of Florida alone has more cases than the whole of Europe" that's a quote from a listener's email which Pat read out on air a few days ago, l thought l was hearing things, maybe loosing my mind. So l looked up the figures and it turns out those numbers are way if the mark.
Florida has 302k confirmed cases and 4,500 deaths.
Europe has 13.6M cases and 580k deaths.
I like Pat but my goodness he needs to challenge some of these wild claims, it's not like it was a random text within in a bunch of random texts, it was a stand alone email. Pat in my experience rarely reads out emails, he could barely contain his glee, rather than actually dissecting the email and separating fact from fiction. The emailer made some good points, a lot of which l would agree with, but l was flabbergasted when Pat glossed over the numbers.
Then on Monday Pat had Niall O' Dowd on making the claim that "attorney General William Barr was cooking up some wild criminal complaint against Joe Biden" again Pat let it go unchallenged. I think Pat's dislike of Trump is clouding his professional judgement at times. That was an outrageous accusation made by O'Dowd..
Yes the US is now the epicentre for the corona virus and they've handled it badly but journalists and broadcasters have to remain professional.

The comment was most likely made in the context of the recent figures.

Florida records more new COVID-19 cases than all of Europe combined

The same narrative is being discussed on various shows and amongst various people here in the US.

Link not available on this side of the pond, thanks anyway, l know the figures inside out and l suspect Pat does as well.

    You do?

The figures you quoted in your previous post were for the whole world.

    Deliberate, or mistake?

    From the article.
The state recorded a record 15,300 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. That’s more than all the new cases in Europe combined, Dr. Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute told the Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie on Monday.

There were 15,284 new cases in Europe Sunday,

This is the context in which the conversation/communication was being held.

Agreed, if he loses the election that's it. He'll moan, make comments about it being rigged, media against him, etc. But it's not like he can barricade himself in, all the powers of the state will automatically move to the winner.

Trump was asked a direct question on a TV interview for Fox over the weekend about whether he would accept the result of the election if he loses. Fair enough for Pat to ask. Who knows the reaction of a % of the population over there if he does refuse. Nothing is certain.

Is this about the candidate who said before the last election that they would not accept the result if they lost, that has authorised the use of unidentifiable armed forces in preventing people protesting in Oregon and is refusing to say outright that he will accept the result this time round?

Yeah, crazy to even discuss it.....

(it won't happen, but is a worthwhile conversation because it shows just where the country is)

They've been literally asking this since he was rlected. It's all part of their "Dictator Trump" paranoid fantasy. And Trump has baited them by refusing to say if he will accept the outcome...just like Hilary didn't accept the outcome when she lost badly.

Fair enough to ask, but Pat had an expert on to do a whole segment on this. It was nonsense, to be fair. Trump doesn't want to talk about losing because he thinks that makes him look weak. It isn't because he wants to install himself as a dictator.

I'm no fan of Trump, but this derangement syndrome they speak of has some validity.

A - In what way did she not accept the outcome?
B - Winning the Popular vote is hardly losing badly
C - Dictator is an apt description for a President strongly advocating violence against their people for exercising their first amendment rights and using unarmed troops to arrest people without following procedures.
D - This is the same person who pardoned a criminal convicted of crimes while working for that Pesident who threatened to flip on him.
E - Shining a light on Trumps clusterf*ck might be boring or annoying for you guys, it isn't half as boring as annoying as watching people ignore the reality around him because they don't like the same things he doesn't like.

A woman text in to tell Pat that "only 30% of people were wearing masks in Dundrum Town Centre yesterday".

Pat was happy to report that as fact.

If Trump said something similar, Pat would have been (correctly) disputing it.

Strikes me this twice weekly 'update' with Luke O'Neill is just a bit too cushy. Most of it is just rehash and lacks any real focus -all possibilities are still in play so what do we learn ? Virus could surge -but it could also fizzle out. There could be a vaccine fairly soon -but then again maybe not...etc. Why pay someone to tell what we know already .
Once a week would suffice .Nothing against the bold Luke -but he must be raking it in on the back of the pando.

Luke is a bit too optimistic about everything. Maybe have him on once a week, and other times have more guests giving us more hard, realistic facts.
