Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You are making no sense (it disproves your point Darcy is a winner just not your 'type' of winner). Same as Trump. He cannot go higher Than his choosen field. Anyway, you seem to have your mind made up so there is no point in me labouring the point. You are already back full circle to bankruptcy, I dealt with that point previously.

One of us isn't making sense anyway. Take care.

Whether you call him a "winner" or a "looser" you must admit it was an extraordinary achievement coming out of nowhere with little or no backing from the GOP and going on to become President of the United States, if he wasn't so controversial it would actually be a great story. He's basically an independent masquerading as a Republican..
TMH you've on the ground there in the States, how are the protests playing out amongst the wider population? From what l can gather the vast majority were trouble free but the incidents of violence, rioting and looting may have tarnished and diluted some of the goodwill people had towards the propests, couple that with the timing of them, slap bang in the middle of a pandemic, that rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way. I'm not sure if they will have damaged Trump all that much. Covid19 on the other hand could be damaging, having said that, l think people who voted for him in 2016 will vote for him again in November. If he gets a grip on the virus l think he will serve another term as President.

For me anyway, the last few months have shown that 2016 wasn't necessarily an achievement by Trump but more dropping of the ball by Hillary/The DNC. That coupled by America naturally being more open to a Republican after 8 years of Democrat President.
He made the same blunders then as he is doing now but now, rightly, Biden is staying in the background and not giving him ammunition.
If 2016 was an achievement, what is Trump doing now, or has done, which is praiseworthy? He's the same guy with the same skillset.

Vast Majority or protests in the City I am in have been entirely trouble free and most people speak about Covid and the ongoing issues more in broader conversations about whether or not it is actually that bad, what is it worth to save the economy and whether or not it is right to expect people to lock-down. People have mentioned the protests but not like they're very frustrated about them or think that they are the problem with Covid continuing.

That being said, in the state I am in, we have been using masks in all public settings for 3 months now and there is very high compliance with it. Even at the protests I've seen, people are wearing masks.

Two things I have noticed here and the first is that in general, people don't discuss politics near as much as they do at home. It can be a bit strange actually to not hear people discuss pretty significant things such as Trump's behavior during Covid outside just a vague statement on it.
The second thing I have noticed and this was through mostly talking with people more of a Republican slant, they are like supporters of soccer teams in Ireland/England. When their team is under performing, or they don't like the manager (leader) they just go quiet, I don't get any sense that they are going to change.

I reckon US Presidential elections are largely won by which side goes and votes, more so than the numbers which pick a side or not.

Very interesting perspective from your side of the pond. Reading between the lines I would say
that Trump is still well in the fight. As Bill Clinton said and a line that Pat likes to quote "it's the economy stupid" at this stage it probably boils down to something as simple as that. If the American people are looking into a bleak 2021 come November, l think they will stick with Trump,
Using your soccer analogy l think changing manager at the business end of the season rarely has the desired effect especially when a team is in the relegation zone or hovering just above it. Is Joe Biden the Sven-Goran Erik'sson of politics? A little flaky.
Pat will have a meltdown live on air if Trump is sworn in again for another term.

Pat is probably my favourite radio presenter, but I can imagine that scene and it would be absolutely hilarious. Maybe Trump getting re-elected wouldn't be so bad after all..:pac:

Turned on Pat Kenny show and Healy has some fella from Italy on talking about...... Mask wearing in Italy.

    Yawn.

Healy being critical of CNN, could that be enough to “endear” him to the cranks on here?

Yes, if you don't completely agree with others on here, you're a crank.

Bet he thought the mask wearing wasn't strict enough and Ireland should set an example. Sound about right?

If you criticise CNN you are a crank.

But if you criticise a right wing news outlet you are a hero.

    That's right Emmet is it?

I always enjoy Robert Fisk's contributions. A very insightful commentator on all things Middle East....and further afield to be fair.

CNN is tabloid rubbish from an Irish point of view.

Robert Fish always great to listen to.

Jaysus the contempt from Healy for the public.

He asked Donnelly re sick pay while meat workers were tested. Donnelly waffles around the question and gave a very limited situation where PUP is payable.

Healy was happy with this though his specific question wasn’t answered.

Healy then ask will all the armchair epidemiologists be happy?

There’s no entitlement to PUP while awaiting results unless you are mass tested by HSE.

Yeah he gave the minister a very easy time I thought. Donnelly's answers to most questions was we are doing more testing in the meat factories and DP centres. Jonathan never asked once why was this not already in place when we know these are very high risk areas. I don't think Pat would have let him off as easy.

Then use your Holidays! Jesus, does everyone want the government to hold their hand all the time?

Take a day or two PTO while waiting the results. There, another of life's problems solved for ya.

Migrant workers won't do this, the current outbreak has shown this.

What are we to do, pay people when out of work due to virus and keep the whole population safe or not pay them and risk the whole population as shown.

I'm retired caring for my adult dependent daughter. This doesn't affect me as we are cocooned. I care for my daughter 24/7 for €30 a week.

I don't want the reckless behaviour of others to put my family at risk. So pay people if they are out of work waiting for test results or better don't hire migrants paid out foreign with poor pay poor living conditions etc

Oh how ye all laughed at backward China well Ireland isn't coming out of this smelling of roses.

We do. It's called annual leave which every worker is entitled to.

Don’t think the “specialists” in the meat processing plants are on same setup as the average Irish worker.

After listening to todays show, its obvious Healy knows as much about sports as he does about music.
