Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You think everyone outside Dublin is a thick moran while you elect idiots like Paul Murphy, Boy Barrett, Brid Smith and Gino who never done a proper days work in their lives.

I believe Gino Kenny worked as a carer, or a social worker, before he got into politics. I doubt it was a “walk in the park” either way.

My Wexford friend call it country stupid city smart.

In the city people pretend to be much smarter than they are

In the country people pretend to be much stupider than they are.

Don't be fooled by the Healy-Rae accent, he's a lot smarter than some of the clowns going around Leinster House with their stupid UK/American twang and an air of importance about them.

He's a pox gaming the system and everything that's wrong with parish pump politics, caring for people only when it aligns with his locality and interests, business or otherwise. The H-Rs are curiously silent on other national topics and far too cute to take on a real responsibility.

We saw a Castlebar cycling club, constituency of one Enda Kenny, awarded a grant of 20,000 while he was Taoiseach.

We saw Wesley College, located within constituency of the Minister for Sport, one Shane Ross, awarded €150,000.

We saw Bertie Ahern do his damnedest to get a 75,000 seater stadium built in his constituency.

Whenever the Healy-Raes advocate strongly for the people who elected them, it seems to be then that the accusations of parish pump politics comes to the fore.

They have been around since day dot, and no sector of society, rich or poor, urban or rural is absent of it.

Care to name the TD's that's not thinking about the next election, every single one of them is trying to jump on some bandwagon to make themselves look important.

One of my local TD's has fortuitously discovered a pot of gold that will provide modest grants to several sports clubs in the area.

This part of his constituency just happens to be an area where he needs to improve his vote for the next election.

    All above board of course.

The are all the same but for some reason when the Healy-Rae name is mentioned parish pump politics come into the same sentence.

This is all true but the people you mentioned also did stuff for the rest of Ireland/the country.

The Healy Rae's only seem to do stuff for Kerry.

Worth noting that two of them were Taoiseach and the other a Minister.

    They had important national roles.

The HR's are Independent TD's for Kerry.

They have important roles representing Kerry.

They're independents, in what way could we expect them to do other stuff for the country though really? I mean, they take part in debates and vote in motions and I expect are involved in some sort of sub-committees and so on.

The others did other stuff for the country by virtue of being in government and therefore in a position to do so.

It could be argued in fact that they actually do so by reminding successive governments, for what its worth, that there still is a rural Ireland and everyone in the country doesn't live inside the M50.

    I never said there wasn't.

There are independents who want to change things for Ireland as a whole.

There are also independents who's only priority is their constituency and no more.

Why would he, he ever challenges any politicians. Actually he never challenges anyone other than maybe his neighbours over land.

Actually..after 10 minutes... I might have to eat my words on that.

The prime minister of Barbados isn't fully selling me on the idea of moving to Barbados. Rents starting at $1500 for a 2-bed home is quite alot, even for a couple.

Plus Death in Paradise suggests theres a decent chance I'll be murdered. :pac:

Yeah - Shetland seems equally deadly, so I don't think I'll be going there!

Did he mention the occasional hurricane which they get in Barbados?

Sligthly off topic, but I love Death In Paradise. Just saying.

Spent 3 years in Barbados. No hurricanes and more chance of getting murdered in Dublin. Also rent of $1500 not much if your paying say €1200+ in Ireland. Real positive is the lifestyle. Its a great opportunity to work abroad for 12 months

Woman on the phone: Galway is a small compact city.

Not really. Small yes but I wouldn't call it compact.

Unbelievable stuff. Using drones in some areas. In Clare it’s a certain ethnic group doing it anyway as the dog warden Frankie Coote all but confirmed on Pat Kenny. It’s a few families of that group before anyone says I said all of them.
