Whoever is in charge of defining the word 'Marriage' at the Oxford English Dictionary must be tearing his hair out with exasperation these days.

"She was very young, she did a foolish thing"...

Are you joking Pat, she was trafficking 1.5 million euros worth of drugs... She didnt miss her period... The attitude of the Irish media to this case is absolutely shocking.. The Irish media first told us that she was innocent, and then when it came out that she was actually lying the Irish media told us that she was young and naive...

ya do gotta love that at NO stage in the whole affair did anyone think that maybe she was a major player in the field that got rumbled.

nope, shes a girl, and as such a victim.

in its own mad way the media in this country is incredibly misogynistic.

Do some men only notice sexism towards men and not women or something? A lot of men seem to get hot and bothered about perceived sexism towards men, but say nothing about the daily examples of sexism towards women.

And of course the opposite also happens every day!!!

Sexism towards women is terrible and luckily in this modern day is pointed out and rightly stopped a lot of the time. There's a lot more to do but there are many that are (rightfully) willing to stand up and say something about it when it happens.

On the other hand, when there's sexism towards men generally men are told to man up. If they do speak out they are attacked by individuals that should know better. Men and women should be treated equally. I'm always suspicious of either sex that complain that one sex are complaining too much about sexism.

As for this case if it had been a man that was in the same situation, there would be no poor innocent woman that doesn't really know what's going on (which is sexist by the way, What the media are saying as they come to her defense is that women are not capable of planning such tasks)
He's be left to rot in South America.

    :D

I'm surprised she hasnt dropped the "Former political advisor to Bertie Ahern bit".

It's sort of like being Head Of Iceberg Detection on the Titanic.

She had to be reading from a script. Interesting item indeed but her presentation of it sounded as if she was presenting an essay she had written.

Funny how Pat gets so incensed at waste of taxpayers' money until it comes to
the question of Frank Flannery and Angela Kerins! He had no answer for Jonathan
Irwin who was adamant that it was scandalous that those individuals could have
so much of the taxpayers' money sloshing around in their various accounts while
charities like Jack and Jill got so little from the government coffers. PK put up a
vigorous defence of Kerins and Flannery. It was enough to make you puke!!
    Disgusting!! ;):(

Pat's using the same logic regarding Kerins and Flannery that he used to use to defend his humongous RTE salary. It's a hang-up of his.

It's one of his many hang ups. This one is probably the most sensitive as His listening figures on Newstalk (which I have to say are pretty good after the amount of time he's been on air) Would in no way justify his Newstalk Salary, even as a loss leader. His current Salary is only so high because of a dig at RTE itself.

It's very hard to defend anyone on Salaries higher than £100,000. The argument is that they bring experience, talent and vision to a job. Often when you look behind the scenes, it's their P.A. that holds things together, but he or she who is possibly more important is only on a sixth of their bosses income.

I used to think he had chilled out a bit since he came to Newstalk - he was much
more pleasant to listen to. But it seems to me that he has reverted to being
Celtic Tiger Pat since his holidays. Perhaps he was hanging out with too many
    millionaires!! :)

In his interview with Jonathan Irwin, he could not see past the notion that Kerins
and Flannery had built up big businesses, setting up payments and pensions
for a lot of employees. Per usual, he attacked the PAC. But JI defended the PAC,
correctly insisting that if Kerins and Flannery were given so much money by
the Government, the much oppressed taxpayer was entitled to know how it was
bring spent. PK never seems to get this. Yet, he was almost apoplectic yesterday
when discussing how students entering university quite often change from their
original courses (costing the taxpayer money!!! :( )

She's been on PK more than once on Newstalk. As condescending and smug as ever (Terry, not Pat - actually, both - lol).

I can't bear to listen to Prone, she's insufferable.

did Pat really use the word "Naf" during that interior design segment

For a supposedly busy man, John Brutal seems to be spending a lot of time courting the Irish media these days. I wonder if he's got his eye on the Phoenix Park sinecure? There's a nice pension to go with it, and Bruton seems to like collecting pensions.

Did Pat just say that the Council were looking for a Council house in the area i.e Castleknock for that couple? So it's likely that the couple have turned down housing elsewhere. If that's the case then it's just another example of our entitlement brigade who expect everything and contribute nothing.

As usual, when cases like this are highlighted in the media, we only get one side of the story. We don't know what efforts have been made to rehouse the family or if they have rejected offers of accommodation elsewhere. There was no attempt to explain why they could not get free legal aid. The suspicion is that this family just decided to dig their heels in.

Very often if not always every effort is made to get both sides of the story. However, the other side be they, receivers, sherrifs, banks etc simply won't go on air!

dodgy thing there is the court case today though.

cant see a judge being too happy having to look at peope dressed like knackers sans documetation because the reposessors wont let them back in to get dressed and pick up letters.

could blow up in the sheriffs face IMO.

On the current bit on the hospital. pat doing well putting these lads under preasure. this is the fecking matter all over again. the fact this country cant build a childrens hospital without the usual professional suspects sticking their oar in tells ya loads about how the country went bankrupt.

If you know you have no rights to stay in a property your renting and have known for ages you were going to be evicted why would you leave it and not do anything to arrange a new house. The govt cant be expected to sort out everyones stupidity and "hope". This is another great example of the bolloxology that people in this country think that everyone else should look after them and they shouldnt have to do anything for themselves

I have to echo previous comments about how excruciating this Una Claffey section is. Great material being butchered by reading it off a piece of paper.

My god the lack of empathy regarding these people on this thread is sickening... They are in their sixties for god sake, bit late for getting a job to save for a deposit to buy their own place.
