Hi there, my son is starting school in September. I have looked EVERYWHERE for 100% cotton pants and shirt and 100% wool (or 80% even) jumpers. All the uniforms for sale in all the shops, whether supermarket, department store or specialist uniform shop, are horrible synthetic fabrics, treated with iron free/stain free chemicals.

I found a website in the UK which sells 100% cotton pants and shirts. They were delivered today and are weird fitting. Collar and cuffs tight but length of shirt below knees and cuffs about 10cm longer than fingertips. I have sent them back for the size down, but am not hopeful the collar and cuffs will provide enough room.

As far as jumpers go, I have bought pure wool in the right colour and employed someone to knit one. My mother sending another over from New Zealand in case the knitted one is a disaster.

This can't go on for the next 13 years of schooling, but nor am I having him spend 5 days a week for 13 years dressed in ****e quality, uncomfortable, chemically treated clothing made of synthetic fabrics that are hot in summer, cause excess sweating and are cold in winter.

Does anyone know of any place in Ireland that sells uniforms made from natural fabrics?

M&S do a jumper that is high cotton content, but it looks stretchy and faded and the rest of their uniform is the usual acrylic/polyester/crap.

I do not care about having to wash/iron more often, or if I have to buy them more frequently due to not being as hard wearing, so long as I can buy them and they are reasonably accessible.

I have no advice for you other that contacting eczema charities etc.

There must be a solution for kids suffering from eczema.

My other half never wore a uniform in school as there was none available in 100% cotton, even now 2 decades later he can't handle anything other than cotton or bamboo beside his skin.

You could employ a seamstress to make up a shirt and a skirt / trs. They are easy enough to knock up. A cotton gaberdine may be available in your child's school colours.

I would just buy a v neck wool jumper in the correct colour and use that.
The woolen mill shops sell them or you could knit one.

There might be knitters in your area or dressmakers/tailors who would happily cater for your needs?

    Hi all,

I am trying to find a place that sells pure cotton (or cotton rich) girls school blouse in a blue gingham pattern. The only one I found in the school wear shop is 65% polyester and will not be good for my kid's sensitive skin

Does anyone know of anywhere please?

    Thanks in advance.
