Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He evidently was calling non-fouls at the start of the game, whether he meant it or not.

Laying down the marker is all well and good, but he cost Tyrone by giving handy frees to Monaghan in the early stages and also cost Monaghan a yellow card for a perfectly good challenge on Sean Cavanagh. He was having a direct influence on the course of the game as an open contest and that's not the referee's job.

Sorry but overall I think he is doing a good job of controlling two teams who have committed a lot of fouls.

The yellow on Hughes was harsh and I agree he gave Monaghan a few handy frees - the one Dessie Moan got was a real shocker.

The players going out and fouling players are responsible for the foul, not the ref for blowing them.

How many times have there been 3rd man tackles off the ball, even after 4/5 yellows being dished out?

Throw in the fracas at the whistle and I have a lot of sympathy for the ref in this game.

Boys in studio going for Tyrone. By right they'll be down to 13 men.

    But no mention!

I think todays game shows how poor Donegal were when they only managed 0-7 in 70 mins v Monaghan.

Sure we shall see tomorrow how poor they are. Although Monaghan beat them, they beat Tyrone well so have mayo learned anything really?

How??? Donegal are reigning All Ireland champions and had previously beaten Tyrone?

Sean Cavanagh only started coming into the game when the referee made it clear that you can't tackle him, Darren Hughes made a great tackle on him and got booked

What is they subbed the punchers before they could get sent off?

It would have been a disgrace if he wasn't sent off,. Gormley should be gone too, one of the dirtiest players in the country.

    Ref wouldnt allow the substitution.

Great to see the referee taking action and not just letting him away with it

Tyrone to win by 7 points.

ref is making a dogs dinner of this game

Idiotic from Penrose. That all came from the Monaghan number 6 throwing a dig in the chest of the tyrone player.

    Gormley got very lucky.

I think the ref saw Penrose's effort more clearly and I can understand why the ref didnt want to send off 2 Tyrone players for the same incident even though by rights it should have been 2 reds.

Absolutely, except when it shouldn't be a foul in the first place, then it is the referee's responsibility.

That will happen regardless obviously, giving soft fouls at the start of the fouls isn't going to change this, and it didn't change the punches at the end of the first half here either.

Done a very good job with regards sending off Martin Penrose.

Sending off a player who punches another player a foot in front of him after play was stopped???

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭intellectual dosser

What the fcuk was he thinking?

Not only was the linesman right there, the ref was 3 feet away....you've been training since November Martin!!!

Or if he hadnt blown for those frees matters would have been even worse??

Des moane should be embarrassed....bit of a puck across his neck area and he holds hisright eye....cormac Reilly is way out of his depth

Great score by big Dick Clerkin

Momentum has swung to Monaghan this half

He should have reacted to Gormley's punch, Penrose didn't catch him properly.
Reilly is a joke but that was to be expected.

No, I don't think so, I can't see why it would in fairness.

Edit: Tyrone with more wides than scores, very poor.

If Tyrone win this they are some team. Would give them serious confidence for the semi and overall that they can go on and win the All Ireland

They're nowhere near good enough to win the All Ireland. Mayo will take them apart if they make it to the semis, and you couldnt see them beating Donegal if they play either

But even with 14 players can tyrone keep on, one thing with gaa teams is often the team with 15 dont know how to play with a numerical advantage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

Was I hearing things or were the Monaghan fans chanting cheat at Sean Cavanagh?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭intellectual dosser

Thought that yellow was harsh on Kieran Hughes

Cavanagh is blessed not to get a red for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,688 ✭✭✭Nailz

There goes Monaghan's advantage. Kieran Hughes will be a massive miss in that forward line.

Not the first time Sean Cavanagh has done that, lucky boy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 503 ✭✭✭Brendan97

Cavanagh should be sent off, that must be the 4/5th rugby tackle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

    Cavanagh is very dirty!

Goes to show what an embarrassment the GAA is, no red card for the most cynical foul possible. This is a horrible game of football between 2 teams who simply have no class.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,909 ✭✭✭Neeson

I think Cavanagh is the Suarez of Gaelic football.

    Good but filthy.

Many thought Monaghan werent good enough to beat Donegal either. Mayo havent been tested yet and Donegals vulnerabilities were shown in the Ulster final so anything can happen on the day.

14 v 14 now. Cavanagh and Tyrone lucky there
