    Hi,

    Im looking to buy a homebrew kit for someone that has wanted to try this out for a few years now but never quite got around to it. (although he does make a very nice elderflower champagne every year)

    Im on a budget of about 100 euros.... give or take. Theres no homebrew shops around this area so I'll have to buy online (preferably from an Irish site)

    Any advice or input at all would be great.

    I have looked through the gift ideas section on Home Brew West, and all their packages include the basic starter gear and a beer (ingredient) kit.

    Though you can probably do better by cherry picking only the gear that you actually need.

    * 30L fermenter, with tap and airlock (and stick on graduation strip and thermometer)
    * Hydrometer
    * 100ml sample jar
    * Stirring paddle
    * Siphon
    * Siphon clip
    * Bottling stick

    * double can (3Kg) beer kit - stay away from those lagers & pilsner kits, and anything that advises you to use anything less that pure malt extract (e.g. sugar, brew enhancer etc.)

    Heatons had killinen stirrers for €1 last week (as well as muslin cloth and bags). Also, the hydrometer from thehomebrewcompany.ie comes in a tube so you don't need a separate one.

    Well if its a present you dont want to be going here and there.. homebrewwest.ie do great starter kits so do thehomebrewcompany.ie have a browse, spend as much as you want ..but avoid the basic one with a kit included( if its finlandia its nasty )...coopers is good espicially stout / ipa depends on style the person likes . or any that equipment kit you can bundle with a 3kg ( eg st peters or woodforde kit) . pay for the actual beer kit as much as the equipment ... a free kit will probably be a bottom of the price range one. .. ive mentioned a few kits. also if they like belgian beer brewferm are very good but take a LONG time to turn around compared to a coopers.
