Supposedly the accuracy of the 210 is not great (from what I've heard). Not much of an issue if you won't be chasing segments, if you are, accuracy is needed.

The red has the premium HR strap rather than the standard strap, and is red and black rather than blue and white :). As far as I know that's the total difference.

The red one comes with the Premium Heart rate monitor soft strap, which is the updated one. From reading up online the premium version strap can sometimes be buggy so it might be worthwhile checking up some reviews yourself. From what I've heard the original heart rate monitor is fine.

I've used both the standard and premium HRMs from Garmin, and my experience is that the premium is better, more consistently accurate and less prone to dropouts.

The Speed/Cadence sensor is very useful too, more accurate than GPS alone. The Edge 500 will use the speed/cadence sensor by default, and only use GPS for speed tracking if no speed/cadence sensor is present.

Some people have asked me if the 510 is worth the premium over the 500, and my answer has been, "no, not really". In my opinion, unless you want the live tracking, the 510 doesn't do much more than the 500 and is much bigger.

Up and running very happy with my garmin.got the premium package.Just wondering can you track progress in real time from a pc seen as the unit is gps enabled. So the wife can find me ;-).

Has anyone had the following problem with their cadence sensor? I recently installed it using the 3M adhesive sticker and one cable-tie.

It was working fine, but yesterday the cadence sensor secured to the crank-arm had moved slightly towards the axle, as the sensor itself had parted company from the adhesive. It is now too far from the receiver unit.

The adhesive strip is still firmly glued to the crank-arm and held securely in place, but the sensor itself had pulled away from the adhesive strip.

It is not going to fall off and get lost, as the cable-tie is holding it in place, but it is currently not working due to the misalignment.

Should I remove it and use super-glue / other glue to re-attach it and use a new cable-tie, or contact Garmin?

    Thanks

I had this a while back ended up just taping the sensor the the arm with Duck tape, it just kept on slipping with the cable tie\3m sheet. No problems with it since

If you have the 510 or 810, yes you can live track, I assume using Garmin Connect.

Try Menu|Settings|Bike Settings|Auto Lap to determine what a "lap" is. You can do it by distance or location. The tones are set in Menu|Settings|System|Tones. You can only set on or off.

    here's another option
I think some bundles have the newer premium hr strap which is possibly more comfortable and easier to clean, though the older one is ok as well. The edge 500 is fantastic value these days as well and a great companion on solo rides.

I would have to say, its probably the best purchase I have made in bike equipment.

I was debating long enough about whether or not to get it and a few spins later after installing it, and customising the menu's on it, I have nothing but praise for it.

After a couple of niggly problems, Auto Stop and Auto Power Down, I am also very happy with my 500. It does everything I need in cycle logging. I just don't do any updates.

Have mine up and running a few weeks and love it.I upload to strava and get all the info.As most of my rides are about 2 hours or so am wondering about battery care. When I connect the unit to my pc it automatically starts to charge.I dont get a chance to drain the battery in fact it's still nearly full.I always leave it connected untill its 100% full.Is this bad for the battery.

I've just set my bike up on a turbo trainer with the garmin 500 and can't get speed to show. Seems to either sit at 0 or around 2mph. GPS is turned off and its definatly picking it up. Cadence and HR are working fine, just speed :/

    Any ideas?

Must be something with the magnet or the little arm type of thing coming out of cadence sensor on rear wheel. Just checked mine and it works great.

I had a look at the arm and it was quite a bit away from the magnet, no idea if that's just happened since i stuck it on the turbo trainer because it was working when i was out on the road with it the other day. Anyway, it's working now. Thanks for the pointer :D
