Need help figuring out if this laptop will run games like Minecraft/Borderlands 2/Garry's Mod... Also should i upgrade the graphics card?

It will to a certain extent. Those games aren't that stressful and your resolution isn't high so it should be fine for those depending on the settings. You can't just throw a graphics card into a laptop. The graphics are built into the boards or processors.

If you really want to do pc gaming you should get a pc.

Thanks alot my budget isnt too high so i cant spend big money, would a new graphics card do anything to help?

You have that laptop already? As I've said already you can't just put a graphics card into most laptops. It doesn't work like that. Some laptops have graphics card ports but laptop graphics cards tend to be very expensive and not very powerful and you have to take the entire laptop apart to install them.


You could get away with running the games mentioned above with that integrated graphics so you might be ok but if you want to get into pc gaming you should build a separate gaming pc. You can build decent gaming pc's very cheaply these days.

If it only has Intel HD 4000 then Borderlands 2 wont run properly.

On low graphics settings at 1366x768 he would get around 25fps so yes it's a bit low but still playable. Disable physx completely and it might be a bit higher.

Overheal

HD 4000 is not a gaming chip by any means but Intel has done a fairly commendable job in the compromise. Games will run, but not play at their best performance by any means. Its really intended for people who have more important things to do with their machines where gaming is really an afterthought. Bethesda's game engine will run (Fallout 3, Skyrim, etc) along with other games like WoW but don't expect your experience to be preferable. CPU heavy games like Starcraft (with GPU-intense features disabled) and Source-Engine titles should have fewer problems.

Then again, you could always go buy FTL. Graphics do not make the game.
