    How, exactly?

Their headquarters are in Czech. None of their manufacturing or assembly is done in Germany, doesn't matter if they are using German design.

Rusty car bonnets. Usually on a jetta from what I can see. You sad people!

    What about Ford Germany then?

The german plates thing just looks stupid on any car, doesn't matter where it was assembled/manufactured.

    Badly modified german cars.

German number plates on Irish cars. You ain't from Baden-Württemberg nor is your car registered there.

    Badly done HID conversions.

They add so much to the look of actual german cars imo. Obviously given the number of "thanks" on your post they are a marmite issue, ie you love them or hate them.

I do agree that german plates on non german cars like fords etc look stupid

Irish reg's with german font look silly, but whatever thats my opinion neither right or wrong...

Why don't they look good on non German cars?
I think changing a number plate to make a car look better doesn't actually make the car look better. It's still the same car, and thousands of people have already done it so you'll just be moving from looking like one group of people to looking like another group of people and miss the point of personalising the car?!?

Not having a go just interested to hear why people do whatever to their cars. Unless its blinding HID's :mad:

    Fake M stickers.
    Two things possible:
    1) Sticked on right side of car - owner thinks he's smarter than others.
    2) Sticked on left side of car - owner is idiot who doesn't know that M badges and badges in general on BMW's go on right side.

Fake E60 M5s with the fake cutout wing vents, fake quad exhaust and fake M-tastic badges in the front grille, then the clatter of the four pot soot chucker usually gives the game away!

Nothing makes me want to reach for a match and petrol can more than this sh*te: (the camber, though the rest is pretty dire, why do you want your tires to wear out after 5-10 miles you gobsh*te!?)

and this sh*t, fcuk right off:

There is nothing wrong with msport spec BMW they come from the factory that way, its only when you get M3 badges and quads on non m cars that the bounds of taste are stretched.

    Felt spec is crap

    Anything project Kahn is gacking

I disagree I don't think there's anything wrong at all with an msport f10 520d

    Certainly not "tat"

What exactly is your problem with such a car?

Was at the Festival of Speed in Limmers and talking to a very nice guy with an M6 in the car park, alright, drooling over the car. V10, 5 liters, 500 horses.
    Now that's a man's car.
What drove past, but a 520d with two M badges (one front and rear) that where very obviously bought in a petrol station. Oh how we laughed and pointed...
An M6 will require traction control, a 520d is a different story, you never hear "520 d looses control due to too much power and crashes"

Here's the grandaddy of Felt Spec. Where the whole merc parts in a VW all began.

Anyway for all you wrong badge haters. My next machine will have the badges if something it's not. 520d badge on a 535d :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭gerardk55

Has to be the RS4 bodykit on a TDi A4, with one clean (fake) exhaust and the other black with soot.

Also anything that comes on the front of a magazine that ends up on the car like those stupid fuel lid stickers.

But the number one mod that makes me mad:
    A footballer behind the wheel.
Doesn't know what he has, doesn't care, just to show off his money and if it gets crashed, it's a disposable toy anyway, buy another one and wreck it.

    LOL

There was a red Nissan/toyota saloon in Nenagh 20 years back with a Merc grille. Priceless. and possibly the genesis of this nonsense.

Far more m kits are sold than M cars. The only reason ///M cars are made is the halo effect and to sell M-sport packages. I thank god for them they allow M cars to exist.

Shoot me down in flames, :o but although I'd hate to see that kinda thing on anything like a regular basis, that's sooo extreme it's damn near art. I hope to god irony is involved. :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Here's one from the opposite end of the spectrum - a Toyota Supra with the spoiler removed. Looks awkward and in the nip!

Stupidly noisy exhausts .... really ? wtf ? you listening to that all day ? and you wonder why you've a headache ?

Impreza's look odd spoilerless, but personally I like the sleek look of the supra without a spoiler, i think the lines flow better...

Same goes for any car that is supposed to have a spoiler; one of my pet hates is Integras with no spoiler, or cars like Imprezas. Just looks totally imbalanced without the spoiler.

You must remember that Anan drives a Subaru Forester AFAIK, which is about as tatty and as naff as it gets. :)

    One of the ones the irks me the most is RS4 badges on a B6 A4, any B6 A4 be it a 1.6, 1.9TDI or 3.0 V6.
Whatever about badging a car as a higher spec of what you have, which I don't get either, putting an RS4 badge on a B6 is completely nonsensical because there is NO B6 RS4, the highest version being the S4.

If you're going to try and copy a car, at least try and get the basics right.

No one. But with "stretched tyres" there is potential. Have to say I really dislike those.

Don't say to that a Czech man.

They are very proud of their Czech roots and heritage and still soundly classify themselves as Czech.

Would you class Volvo as American now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭YbFocus

Yeah I'd still count them Czech.
Would you count Bentley German because they're part of VAG, or Mazda American because they're reconfigured fords? :p

Apparently Volvo are chinese now according to the wiki page. They will always have swedish heritage same as skoda have czech heritage.

However skoda jokes (accurate ones) seemed to stop when VAG acquired them. Anyway they are owned by a german corporation so that makes them german. Same as Seat.

By the same rights you're now German as well so.

You're nearly right Victor. It was fitted to a Renault 12, then an old DX Corolla and now it lives on the front of an original Mini. The mini has had all new wheel trims and original merc lights fitted too.

I know who made them too.

Oh very true and they have come on strides since the injection of German engineering hit home, but Bentley will always be English.

I'm afraid I don't buy that. Bentley is an evocative name, but, like any manufacturer, the products and company ethos change over time. Bentley marketing will continue to hammer home the 'Made in England, seats stitched by English craftsmen' message because, and only because, there's money in it.

I have yet to see a mod that makes me angry. Its there car not mine, if they want to chrome strip every thing on it or 37inch rims or a wheelie bin for an exhaust or covered in stickers etc etc fair fooks to them. I dont like it but seeing it dose not make me angry.

Each to their own and all that

    RS4 Chrome mirrors on anything!!
    Those ridiculous huge aerials!!
    Badly tinted windows!!
Big TDI-Tuning.co.uk stickers on the rear window!!
(All four of the above can usually be seen combined)

    RS4 body kits
    Mk4 Golf R32 body kits
Mk5 GTI grille on a jetta
Straight through exhausts on a TDI
and those "My breaks are good, is your insurance?" stickers, always gives me the impression the driver's a right arse hole.

Oh I realise all that talk is crap and all but the name still survives and the company still acts on its own with guidance from Germany. To me they are still there, whether or not they are the independent company they used to be or not.

I think we're going to get shot to bits for being OT :)
