Waterfront kitchens in Carrialine are great. I’ve had 2 kitchens from them over the years and both were fabulous. My neighbour had hers done with them following on from my experience and hers is fab too. Well worth a look.

We went with Cash and Carry in Carrigtwohill for our kitchen refit a few months back. Very pleased with the design process and the upfront price. Quality of the kitchen is good as well. I'd recommend from out experience

Thanks for that - Ive been to a few places now, including Cash & Carry, but I am leaning towards Express Kitchens at the moment

Super thanks for that - get a good feeling from them, not too pushy, and a good range of options. Was it the Togher store you went to?

Time to bump this again. We're looking to change our kitchen. I've been in contact with hq kitchens (anyone have experience with them) but no word back yet, and in going for a consultation with cash and carry. Any others? Express kitchens got good feedback here but they look to be permanently closed now.

Express are gone alright, probably cos they were crap

I'd just go for IKEA still for atleast the cabinets and doors, extras. The planner is fairly easy to do yourself and you can really max out your budget knowing all your costs as you go. Mother got a cash and carry wardrobe lately, I was talking to the fitter from there, he even said the IKEA kitchens are much better quality. If you wanted to fit it yourself too, its surprisingly easy system. You buy the wall rail, draw a level line at the cabinet height, attach the rail to the wall and then the cabinets click into the rail.

Creative Design and David Lane have moved into the high end market since that post. Both are brilliant at what they do but are not cheap. Both are also very busy at the moment.

Went with an Ikea kitchen and am delighted. We got some ideas from 2 kitchen showrooms in Cork (I know morally not great) and then used the Ikea kitchen online designer to create what we wanted. We had an online meeting with the Ikea person. Ordered and delivered and then got a guy in Cork city to fit. He mostly does Ikea kitchens so flew through it and its perfect. He also said that he would have helped with the design stage too if we needed that before ordering.

I had a Cash and Carry kitchen before and would say the quality of the Ikea one is comparable. I put a quartz worktop on our Ikea kitchen (from Hickeys) and it doesn't look like an Ikea kitchen at all.

Also got the Ikea oven and induction hob and so far so good.

I've dealt with Adrian in HQ kitchens and honestly they were absolutely fantastic, he worked to a strict budget we had and gave us more than any other company would for that price and a bespoke kitchen usually doesn't come cheap, it was all top quality too, i was very impressed.

Friends of ours used B&Q and had nothing but problems that in the end another company had to fix.

Another friend is currently replacing their cash and carry new enough kitchen due to it not lasting and using Cullenview from Riverstick they are also brilliant.

For anyone thinking of sourcing a kitchen themselves, I'd recommend getting a kitchen designer involved.

We had a chap from Glanmire do ours and it was a huge improvement on the previous one, much thoughtful use of space.

I can't remember his name but I guess anyone like that who specialises in it would do.

The just bring your design to IKEA or Woodworkers, ect.

Bumping this again as when I was looking for someone I didn't find any recent answers. We went with Jevens Fitted Furniture, he is based in ballincollig. We were a bit weary at first, but decided to give it a chance after a friend recommended him. To say he is precise is an understatement! He said it himself that he is very anal about getting everything perfect so he might take a bit longer than the average Jo, we thought it was just talk but the outcome is fabulous! We had to call him back because the people that did the flooring left a nasty scratch on one of the panels, he took it away and brought it back perfect the next day for no extra charge.

Just after putting in a new one With IKea. Used the Douglas office. Thrilled with it. Got all the appliances except fridge freezer from them. They did the utility as well. Had a number of planning meetings with them before they would sign off. Found them to be quite fussy but they were right in the end. I was wanting an Island but they swayed me towards a peninsula .

That's the way to go - you can buy your own choice kitchen in somewhere like Cork Builders Providers - install most of it yourself and get some assistance with items that you need help with like plumbing or electrics.

Are cash and carry still good for kitchens?

What they had in the show room looked pretty decent.

The kitchens are fine, but their fitters are not great in my experiences, seem unqualified. I did a couple of rental places and had to get the kitchen refitted in both units. The under counter cupboards were sloped in one, legs not adjusted, counter skewed. The other one the units were fine but the fitter made a mess of the counter, a big gap where the wall and counter met all around, just cut and fit it wrong.

Those were different fitters. No idea where they get them but I’d say either fit it yourself if you have the skills, or find a good fitter.

Echo this, my mother got a kitchen in and the installer made a balls of it. He also didn't mitre the work top, the joining bar looks so amateur.

What sort of monney did you end up spending if you don't mind me asking?

17,000 .I have quite a large kitchen though and a large utility as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,100 ✭✭✭✭rob316

That must be a hell of a kitchen for 17k in Ikea

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭whispering1

Ikea actually have 3 different price ranges. I went for the Method one. This is the most expensive one while the kitchen is a fine size, the utility is quite big.

How much would the cost of fitting a kitchen from cash and carry kitchens be ?

Im just wondering how much is their current offer worth in terms of €€

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭Gru

We have a small kitchen, went with the Ikea in Douglas too, cost 10k all in (we got two appliances fridge/freezer and dishwasher included the kitchen was 7k the fitting was 3k).

    The experience was mixed,

The people working in the shop were excellent, we ordered and were told there was a 3 month delay in fitting at that time, our problem came on delivery when they missed delivering so many parts (including cabinet doors) because they didn't pack the order for 3 months and while they were in stock at ordering, they were out of stock by packing/delivering.

after a brief misunderstanding on IKEA's behalf (they told us to pick a whole new kitchen last minute with an hour to decide on everything to keep the date with the fitter) eventually we went with sticking to the kitchen we wanted (as we didn't like the other colours/designs) and wait until the missing parts came back into stock (IKEA couldn't guarantee they would). They eventually did come into stock and delivered them and the fitter came back to fit them, a bit disappointed if i'm honest in how a company as large as IKEA dealt with the whole situation tbh, their team in Dublin who were ringing us had 1 excellent staff member who literally saved our kitchen, but a lot who didn't know what they were doing and were quite rude to us and the fitter.

The local carpenter they used was phenomenal, because our kitchen is small he had a lot of work to do and he did it impeccably, the quality of the work and the units is fantastic and holding up excellently to wear and tear so far. Someone after the fact mentioned we could of hired him directly to install the IKEA kitchen and just not paid IKEA Douglas for the fitting (when i asked the fitter he confirmed this is an option and would have been faster, and significantly cheaper to install and all of the items would have been ordered straight away and in stock) Ikea take a huge portion of the fee they charge to you for fitting the kitchen.

so lessons learned and all that.

3k to fit an IKEA kitchen is quite a fee. Its a days work like and not in the least bit difficult.

My sister got quoted 4k recently from IKEA for a fit out too, eyewatering.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,412 ✭✭✭billbond4

Yes, i was thinking it would be at the most about 1000€ for the carpentry as its typically a day job

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,100 ✭✭✭✭rob316

I recently fitted a 2nd hand kitchen that was going to be professionally repainted. Now that was work. I had to cut new shelves, rip down tall cabinets into smaller base cabinets, replace hinges, take a part shaker doors and resize to fit smaller cabinets, fill, sand. All on top of the usual installation of a kitchen.

I wouldn't mind but most fitters won't plumb in your sink and appliances so you have the cost of a plumber on top too.
