Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Really?

Visit the city to do some light shopping, warm day so no coat required. Bring a book for on the bus, will use said bag to carry book, and any small purchases made, and keep my jeans pockets for phone, keys, wallet, and coins for bus fare.

I always find that men who aren't comfy carrying such bags to be overly insecure.

Sure, "man bags" are too trendy for my tastes, but why do you fear getting slagged by carrying a laptop bag/messenger bag/satchel?

There's something seriously wrong with Irish society if people are offended by a guy wearing a messenger bag. If you want to wear one and it's practical for you then wear one. Nobody should judge you.

Not if he actually is a bike messenger. But not some eejit who want's people to think he lives in the East Village when he actually lives in his mam's house in Terenure.

Oddly enough the bag in the link looks nearly exactly like the Manhattan Porterage bag I lost about 5 years ago. Cost me €70 and contained my Laptop and half a thesis. It was neither messenger bag nor man bag.

BTW this is a man bag.

And how does one fit the phone, wallet and keys(car keys) in the trouser pockets without them digging into my body? (coins fit fine :))

They don't fit in my jeans comfortably and hell i'm not buying another few pair of jeans just because some insecure cretin thinks carrying a bag is "unmanly". F*k him.

If you're a straight male it's always a good to have some form of style. Having a man-bag is probably the tamest and least experimental form of metrosexuality. Don't be a pussy. Just dress well and get a man-bag. Girls appreciate a guy who doesn't mind being a bit trendy.

Does he also have to be an athlete to wear a pair of runners and a baseball player to wear a baseball cap? Also I don't see why a person's location should dictate what they wear or carry around with them.

My man bag contains my lunch, notepad (as in paper), pens, phone, phone usb cable, and a newspaper or magazine if I have bought one. Keys go in there to, stops them wrecking clothes. Whenever i buy something small in a shop it goes in the bag, simpler than carrying around another useless plastic bag. Sunglasses + case go in there when it's sunny.

Get it done, buy a bag and don't look back.

Manbags are handbags. Men cannot walk around with handbags as a severe and merited beating will occur.
I've never been beaten up and I always have a manbag. Brown leather yoke I bought in TK Maxx about 10 years ago. The only time anyone ever refers to it is to say "nice bag" and not sarcastically either. Blokes and women. Grand job, so it is.

Eh I wouldn't have much of a problem with it but I take it as shoving everything into my laptop bag, so much easier. Anyway I don't need a bag to bring around. Just a wallet and phone that's it. A bag is a pain in the back side.

Oh man, don't mention baseball caps or any item of clothing that's even vaguely alternative or you'll send the typical AH user into paroxysms of rage.

Seriously, this kind of ****e is cut from the same cloth as knackers calling blokes "fagg0ts" for having long hair.

have 3 different bags depending on what i require, I have a small dkny messenger bag which fits my android tablet and a few other things, I have a small backpack which I call my 'bug out bag' I keep it in the car, it has a towel, spare clothes, first aid kit, survival tin, food, GPS, solar charger and other assorted survival stuff, and then I have my main laptop bag, it has chargers, A4 folder, pencil case, lun I ch, hipflask and anything I might use in the next hour.

due to my little brothers unique sense of humor and the secret santa system my laptop bag has flowers printed on it, but people don't pass comment on it, at least no one has ever said anything to my face, but I am 1.85M tall and 100+Kg

Do you think it's wrong for women to wear trousers, because women aren't men? It's all social bullsh*t really.

By the way there's a big difference between a messenger bag and a handbag so I don't know why people are comparing the two.

It's not b*ll****. It's not right for a man to be carrying around a bag with a load of sh!te in it. If it doesn't fit in your pockets, leave it at home.

Ive got a sort of manbag for holidays. Very handy for holding guidebooks, cameras, suppositories, all the usual holiday stuff. Doubt I would use it here though.

Because if men become women and women become men, then where will society be? Manbags should be banned and those that use them should be locked up.

Why is it ok to carry a bag with two straps but not ok to carry a bag with one.

Also for all you phone, wallet, keys people. why not get one of these and eliminate the wallet?

While I would have no problem carrying around the bag the OP posted for work/college related items,

I would draw the line at bringing that sort of thing on a night out, as that would be where the bag becomes more of a purse...

I think they are great for things like tablets, phones and so on, things that are bulky in a pocket, which just stretches them out of shape. Also I often buy a few things while I'm out, and can use a bag, much more comfortable to have one of those bags than carry a bag in your hand also. I even mostly bring a backpack these days.

But why isn't it right? So if a male student can't fit their notes and stuff in their pockets they should leave them at home?

I really don't know where this whole gender stereotyping comes from regarding messenger bags. They were originally designed for bicycle messengers and postal workers and not aimed at any gender in particular.

I used to have one back in the 80's when I lived in Germany. More like a small handbag though, rather than a shoulder bag like in the OP's post. They were very common there, esp. at that time, and it was very handy I must say. Then I moved to the Netherlands, and was laughed at everywhere I went so stopped using it.

    No, I'm not a girl.
Some strange strange opinions on this thread.

I'm a student in Dublin. I find my satchel really useful for college (A4 pads and folders and tablet computers and whatnot), placement (to carry books, notes, and random stuff around hospitals - loads of doctors have embraced the satchel as a more professional looking alternative to a kiddy schoolbag), cycling (can rest it on the back of the bike and avoid the incredibly sweaty back that results from me cycling with a backpack), and generally gadding about town.

Literally cannot fathom why some people think it's so womanly or abhorrent that a man's bag should have slightly different dimensions and one strap instead of two.
