if lamella scores tonight it'd be perfect. Give the lad some confidence.

These officials at the goalpost are the biggest joke in football from what I've seen the last couple of nights.

Great to see the youngsters getting a run

Townsend gone back to his old self.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

    I'll take that. A hat-trick for our main striker and a 4 - 1 win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭tippspur

    Good stuff,now for the scousers!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,910 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

That'll do, about time we stuffed someone. Finally a break from playing Sundays. Soldado will be raring to go.

Delighted with that but I think Lamela needs a loan to a Hull or the likes in Jan

I think tonight highlights the difference in quality between Townsend and Lamela.

Lamela doesn't do too much but makes his possession worthwhile - making their keeper really work two or three times and assisting on of Soldado's goals.

While Townsend has loads of possession, 'runs around a bit' 'Arry style and isn't much of a threat. Though he did assist Holtby's goal.

I'd be seriously worried about Lamela, just don't see the whoop about him? Little cameo's aren't going to grant you a starting place, so unless injuries pile up he'll be bench warming for this season. And bulk up!

Holtby is coming up to 12 months in the jersey now and he hasn't delivered. Only a squad player at best. Reminds me of Kranjaer ... Gets an odd goal, looks tidy enough but never dictates a game.

Holtby had 96% pass completion tonight, even against weak opposition that is impressive. I know some of them were sideways and backwards but he did play some good one touch balls forward and scored a great goal. I've not lost faith in him yet, he will be a good squad player, a good reserve first team player, which we need

The lad hadn't a word of English when he arrived so it's hard to build a rapport with teammates until he grasps the language which he's doing well enough by all accounts.

They also only recently managed to move his family over to help him settle better.

If you had seen him play for Roma in Serie A you'd see what the fuss is about he's top class. My only fear is maybe he might not settle into the English game like the likes of Shevchenko when he went to Chelsea.

I have no problem giving him til the end of season maybe even next season to get to grips. Cause if he does he'll be well worth it.

Never heard of him if I'm honest so I'll take your word for it. I'm not writing him off entirely, but he's going to have to show a lot more than tippy tappy & sidewards passes. It's like I'm willing him to succeed because of the price tag, if he'd cost 6 million, then I wouldn't be sweating it.

The ball he played in for soldado's 2nd was excellent, he has a lot of talent, needs to play more than 1 every 2 weeks if he is going to get a chance to show what he has. Doesn't have to start, just give him 30 mins , we need to back him with game time, otherwise he'll be back to the continent, likewise Soldado.

    ^^^
Agreed superb ball to Soldado, can't remember really anything else bar that though. Drift's in and out of games, at one point I had no idea if he was still on the pitch. Dembele should show him where the weight room is.

So do you reckon he'll start on Sunday?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,284 ✭✭✭DubPerryman

I doubt he will start on Sunday. Though he could come on for one of the wingers late on to hold up the ball if we're seeing the game out.

In fairness to Lamela, I'd like to see his assists per minutes on the pitch ratio.

I can remember three anyway - Cardiff, Sheriff and last night. I know the Europa teams are 'weaker' but an assist is an assist. Townsend /Siggy speak the language and played against the same teams but probably have fewer assists.

That's fairly damning evidence against Townsend and his wastefulness

I think that's why we're starting to see him on the bench these days. AVB had to wait for the England hype to die down before he could drop him.
