Has anyone imported goods from China? and/or used Alibaba.com to do so?

How much extra cost(tax, duty, etc) is usually involved? Or is there a way to find out?

Also, is there anything like Alibaba but based in the EU?

    Thanks very much

Do 2 forum searches in the box at the top right corner one for china and the other for alibaba, you will get lots of info on both topics from earlier threads.

    Hello y0ssar1an22,

Sourcing products from Alibaba can be hit and miss. You need to be cautious, do research around the supplier, look for references and follow up on same.

A more secure route might be, depending on the level of business, to work with sourcing agents. The advantage of working with a sourcing agent is that they are based in Ireland. They understand the business culture in China, have access to large databases of suppliers across a wide variety of products / industries. They have their own people on the ground in China who can visit factories, inspect products etc. Granted, their involvement will add a certain amount of cost. However, they are likely to be able to get lower prices in the first instance and the security of dealing with companies in Ireland buys peace of mind.

If you PM me the details of the products you are looking for I can check the customs tariff nr and the rate of duty.

In relation to transport, if you are contemplating using seafreight, do not leave the shipping arrangements to your supplier. Agree FOB Chinese port of shipment terms and use an Irish based forwarder to make the shipping arrangements on your behalf.

    Best of luck
