the highest temps are in the Dublin area at the moment (me 15.9c) and I think a record at Casement is looking likely, 15.4c on Dec 18th 1972 is the one to beat. Records at Dublin Airport and the Phoenix Park are unlikely but not out the question at the moment - both recorded 17.1c on the same day, Dec 2nd 1948.
Not the type of post we wanted to see in the "Winter" weather thread!

I got a 17 in the car at Leopardstown at 9.35 in shady conditions, I know car thermos are not accurate but will be interesting to see if it verifies at met stations in Dublin later in the day

Ah its just my way of describing the climate, sounds nicer then the Meteorlogical terms .

But for you i'll say a Huge low pressure will roar in from the atlantic pushed by storm force winds, blitz the high pressure over us, and dump a load of moisture on us, that will lead to spot flooding in places :pac:

After reading this post I had to have have a search and see what January and February turned out like in these years in the hope it was snowmageddon. Unfortunately its pretty grim reading.

I think everyone is basing the future of snow this winter on the GFS runs which are crazy Zonal at the moment. It only takes one run here to start a ramp. I wouldn't worry. Next week will be a totally different set up

Each GFS run is showing a more cold West south west flow. A trend. Evenually a more North west cold flow Minus 5,s 850,s.

well seeing as its not snowing and theres no chance of snow Id much rather have these very milld comfortable temps over 6/7C which wont give any snow but well still be freezing all the time

Sligo got 15.2c today. Ive seen 16c in the past, cant remember what December it was but it was so weird today and then it even cleared completely as it got dark and saw the moon and that shiny planety star thing (jupiter or venus?)

I hope it cools down a little bit before Christmas. I light the fire only around Christmas and if it is this mild it will be too warm to light it. I didn't like it in Christmas 2011 and it kind of ruins the Christmas feeling.

Knew I wasn't going crazy.

Was out and about last night wondering why I was wearing a jacket. Woke up this morning and it was just as mild/warm!

I love it mind you, hate morning runs when it's freezing! More of a mild guy myself, mainly because I just hate cold when there's no snow!

In January 2008, it hit 18c in the West. It was warm nationwide too. I was in hospital in Dublin at the time, and remember being very uncomfortably warm in the ward that day, as the winter heating was blasting.

amazing temperatures today, felt like a cloudy july afternoon at times! Records could have been broken if today was calm and sunny. Next week will be a mixture of cold and mild days, could even be some wintry showers on hills.

Weirdly, or not according to waterfordcityweather its 3 degrees cooler now than at 2:37 AM!

Its lovely out there but this is as good as it gets - a bit cooler from here on.

GFS FI charts are looking colder on each run. Could be a chilly start to 2014 with a wild wintry mix getting more and more wintry.

Therein lies what I hate most about the Irish(I include myself), they rarely calibrate their behaviour with reality, but maybe that's not an Irish thing exclusively.
