Lloris is the best signing we've had in years.

    3 points on the board.

Good stuff, nice to start with a win and a clean sheet. Plenty of work left to do all the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,019 ✭✭✭davycc

yes 3 points in the bag & we should have won it a lot more comfortably had JD & siggy had their shooting boots on.

I'll take that, nice to get an opening day win. New signings look quality.

Nothing glamorous, but 3 points on the board.

    Job done.

    Capoue looks quality.
Pauliho .. solid if unspectacular, will do better alongside Sandro/Capoue I reckon.
    Chandi.. showed moments of quality.
Soldado... showed what we have been missing

Still need another striker though. And a LB.
    Great to see Kaboul back

Delighted, couldn't ask for more. Goldado on his debut, Paulinho motm on debut, Chadli put in a decent performance and our defence was largely good. Can't believe Defoe missed that chance, that's why he'll never be a 20 goal a season striker, that was as good as an easy chance as he'll get all season.

Them **** in Sky Sports don't give a sh1t about us, only care about Mourinho, FFS

Kevin Phillips looked dangerous even at 40yrs old..still has that quality of finding space..Chamack not so much lol..
I would have given motm to that Jedinak beast myself

Kevin Keegan says we lack quality without Bale, what a tulip. We've beaten a well up for it side, could easily have been 3-0. Today we brought in 3-4 new players, 5 if you count Rose who hasn't played for us for ages. Very good result, I think the flair play will come, though we need a great season from Holtby/Siggy at AM or another addition.
We're in a very good position going into this season and if Bale does stay we're really in with a shot for our highest finish in a long, long time.

At least Mourinho expects there to be 6 contenders, unlike all pundits and commentators who haven't given us any credit

Pretty happy with that, was sweating near the end thinking Palace were gonna pull off the draw. Getting a bit sick and tired of Walker's mistakes, he is just too inconsistent and there is absolutely no pressure on him keeping that place with only Naughton challenging for it.

Sig looks a bit sharper this year, just needs to get that confidence and I honestly think he'll be unbelievable! Paulihno was solid as was Chadli, although I'd like to see someone with a bit more pace but lets hope Bale will fit into that slot once all the drama has died down.

Happy with that. AVB will have to do some passing practice though, Walker and Lennon especeilly. Be nice to have six points in the bag when we meet the other lot in a fortnight.

Positive stuff, Soldado oozes quality, Jan & Younes nearly both there, Lloris is solid. Couple of shaky moments among the other defenders.

    Sandro who?:D

Well a lot of it stems from Walker being a massive attacking option he's constantly up the other end trying to spark something.

I thought we were poor today,no urgency at all. We miss Luka terribly as we have nobody making killer forward passes or dictating the pace. We struggled all day to open up what's gonna be the worst team in the division.
We are really gonna struggle to beat teams at home this season without Bale based on today.

They won;t be the worst team until they've been beaten a few times, they were well fired up for it and the changes they made gave them serious momentum in the last 20.

Agreed we need a creative player

I think Modric leaving has had by far the biggest effect on the team, he was the fulcrum of our team and dictated everything. I don't think Bale leaving will have as big an effect. *runs away and hides*

I presumed he was doing it on purpose, as in GOLDado ?

Couldn't get to see any of the game live today so had to do with highlights on MOTD,I'm a happy man with that result though.

I was thinking the exact same myself. In fact you could argue that not being able to replace Modric as playmaker created the conditions for Bale to take over the role with a different style where he moved in towards centre and created his own chances. We moved alot more freely and were more threatening generally with Modric. We depended on Bale last year to dig out 1-0's in a fair few games with spectacular goals.

Im delighted with 3 points yesterday.

The performance wasnt great but we had 3 new players in the starting 11 along with rose starting in a new system and im convinced that verttz was not fully fit. We went to a newly promoted side and kept a clean sheet and siggy and defoe should have added to the tally.

In comparison to the first few games of last year im really happy. The settled players obviously know the system being used.

Plus we had no bale, kaboul(barring 10 minutes), sandro, holtby or Ade. 3 if not 4 of those will be starting in our strongest 11 come the big games

    coys!!!!!!!!

Agree. 3 points was the target and that's what we got. These first few games are all about getting points on the board, the performances will come once things settle down after the the window closes.

a win is a win but again, without bale we struggled to break them down.alot of teams will put men behind the ball against us and we'll struggle to break them down.we lack a creative spark to unlock a defense with a killer pass or a dribble.thought walker was shocking too

I think Walker is what he is, capable of brillance such as the 2 passes to lennon, to being very frustrating as in not knowing what to do when he has the ball in the opponents half and being all over the place defensively.

In general I thought he did ok and if he plays like that for the rest of the season he will be fine.

If Bale is going, we need to get a VDV type player more than a Luka type player. Thats a lot of goals to betrying to replace.

I'm sure it's been said but curently difficult to keep up with the threads as I'm busy with work.

Anyway.. Penalty first game of season as opposed to no penalty the entirety of last season. Already a very different season and we're just one game in...
