To get to the thrust of my point, why is it that Laura is a sexy name but Maura definitely isn't? Almost the same name, yet one conjures up images of sexy gals and the other most certainly does not.

In general, some names are just plain sexy.

Well, I guess Maura would be an sort of name more common in use a few decades ago. Sort of moniker you'd associate with your granny or great aunt, like Margaret or Bridie (sorry to any Margarets or Bridies reading this).

Not really feeling any of the names you've listed there, I'm afraid. I think Irish girls' names tend to be amongst the nicest; there's just something very pretty about their phonetics. Bit of the cellar door about them.

Is Lance sexy? I don't know about that one. Tom, Luke, Adam, Conor, Jonathan, Jack, Dan and... Paddy, strangely are.

i liked elizabeth as a name, until a neighbour of my mothers named her daughter it,


hearing her yelling loudly Elis-a-bit every day, really makes the name grate now,


ditto for darragh, hearing the flat cork accent calling them would put you off any name ending in y or ah(agh), like Tiffany, sarah, bethany, darragh...etc,

as for your names short of knowing people with them in real life different generations generate different images depending on popular culture
Sabrina -most commonly associated with the teenage witch by a certain generation
Belinda - carlisle by the 80's crowd so thats who's they'd imagine
Sheryl - would remind youthful generation of cheryl cole (singer) or Sheryl Crow (singer) or Sheryl in home and away (braxtons scummy gambling addict mother)
Victoria i assume majority think of Victoria beckham
Carla - Coronation street would be guilty for a brunette image constantly grimacing - carla connor
Lisa - Simpsons, most of us grew up with it so it stands out in most heads.
