HP 5510 printer paper error

having a problem with 2 yr old HP 5510 printer. it keeps coming up with error message saying there is no paper in the tray. I've searched online for any tips re the error and nothing seems to apply - rollers are ok, no dust, paper tray fully loaded, etc. anyone got any ideas?
