There's no single good running shoe out there, it's very specific to the individual as to what's the best shoe.
Get yourself to a specialist running shop to get fitted with the right runners for you.

If you are near Dublin, Galway, Limerick (I think its open now), Bray, there's Amphibian King, also Runways in Dublin, and I believe there's Brehon Sports in Cashel.
Not sure what your options are in Cork, someone here might be able to advise, but they're probably too busy celebrating Rob Heffernan's Gold.

Would agree with what spurscormac has said above but I'm assuming from the description as neutral that gait analysis has been done in some form.

@ OP, is this the case? If so, what was recommended. If not, what way are are you self-diagnosing as a neutral.

Also, what's your sports background, your height, weight, what's the longest race you've done to date and what did you wear for training for that.

A bit more info needed really

For Cork there's John Buckley Sports in town or The Edge Sports beside Smyths next to the Magic Roundabout.

Definitely worth going to one of the shops listed and getting a professional recommendation, will cost nothing if you buy the shoes.

    hi,

that gait analysis you referred to in your comment consisted of a visit to Elvery Sports a couple of years ago. I stood on the running machine and ran for a couple of minutes to see how I ran. the guy in the store told me to get a neutral runner. I'm 5 foot 11 inches, weigh 74 kg and am 35 years of age. I attend the gym occasionally, play astro football twice a week so fitness wise i would be fairly fit in events under an hour. the furthest ive ran in the last two weeks was 8 miles, with a couple of 5 and 6 miles thrown in. i hope to complete 10 miles this weekend and take it from there.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Mahers also not a bad option although if you go on a Saturday the guy will probably try to get you on board for a set of orthotics

My daily commute confirms that Limerick is now open :)

Nike shorts that I got online were 38 euro there, 20 in John Buckley's and 10 online after discount.
