Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've noticed this noise- been like this for a while , quite possible since I got it, but not sure. Is it normal? Its the light tapping noise you can hear in the background. Any ideas? thanks

The only reply on youtube is another z750 owner that says ''my Z is the same noise that's okay valve clearance too large. No problem :-)''

what does he mean by valve clearance too large? Is it just a characteristic of this model or is it time to have them checked? According to the manual, they don't need checking for another 20k km or so...thanks

It means the valve-clearances have opened out from wear-and-tear and instead of gliding round the valve lifter and nudging it down and out of the way, the cam is "smacking" it. Have the clearances checked and set by someone who knows what they're at, and verify the amount and type of oil in it.

2008- noise seems to only be present when the engine warms up and only at idle, sound just like the z in the youtube link, not very noticeable but you would hear it if you were looking for it. I'd be interested to know is yours the same.

    What year is yours?

Hi- when you say 'it' , are you referring to the actual noise in the video, or the comment the guy made about the valve clearance.?

I'd be surprised if it was valve clearance as they arnt due to be inspected for ages..oil etc is good, the bike is very well looked after.

Both. Kwaks have always suffered badly with clearances. There's a lot of fine old ZXRs about that are uneconomical to freshen due to needing a slew of new valvetrain components from Hammamatsu. Clacking when hot would be typical as well, as the metals expand. Maybe something of nothing, but if 'twere me I'd have her checked.

a triumph trophy, 900cc triple, it sounds like a diesel powered rock crusher at idle and not much better at 5000rpm!!!

on the bright side, loose valves are better then tight ones :)

does it go away with the clutch pulled in?

Nope...I notice it when at the lights in 1st with the clutch in, or when in neutral with the clutch out...I'm a bit of a nazi when it comes to engine noises so maybe it's normal...at least I hope it is...

Your kwawker is fine. The day I test rode it, there were no worrying noises coming from engine. It rides like a new bike, just better.
