Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi

I bought an Apple TV at airport. My tv although HD ready has no HDMI slot only a scart and other connectors for video etc. I spoke to PC World help in UK who said I need to get scart to HDMI adaptor or converter but they don't stock as specialist equipment!

Can anyone tell me where I can get one?

    Thanks

    Julie

They are pretty expensive as they have to convert the AppleTV's digital signal to an analogue signal that can be understood by your TV. I think they are usually powered. You'll probably have to make sure the box supports HDCP (DRM) as well or else you'll get a very poor quality image or (worse) nothing at all.

I wouldn't bother tbh. It's money better put toward a HDTV.

I saw this online http://www.amazon.co.uk/SCART-Converter-Adapter-quality-converter/dp/B007WRPJX2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376515670&sr=8-1&keywords=hdmi+scart+adapter and am co spidering it. I don't watch TV per say and just wanted to stream Netflix & watch my RTE Player & ITune movies etc on TV.

Has anyone successfully tried this converter?

I don't want to invest in a new TV just for this and my old one is flat screen & HD Ready?

It's HD Ready and it doesn't have HDMI? It should have DVI at the very least, or component, otherwise it's not HD.

Does having a DVI in slot make any difference?

not being smart, but a picture of the connections on the back would help a lot more.

Provided it's DVI-D and supports HDCP, then yes it makes a big difference. DVI-D is basically HDMI minus audio. A lot of early Philips HDTVs came with DVI only. You'll need to carry audio separately, but it *should* work. You'll need a HDMI to DVI cable for a start. I'm not sure about the audio cable.

It it works, it would be far superior to connecting it via SCART. You'll be watching HD rather than fairly poor SD. The difference in image quality would be night and day.

Those are the audio connections. Take a picture of the video connections. A clear one if possible.

Do you know the model of the television?

Those HDMI-less Philips sets are such a nuisance. I used to have one and I bought a new TV just get away from the hassle of DVI.

Okay, it has DVI-I, so you are all good for video. A HDMI to DVI cable should do the trick. Keep in mind that the AppleTV doesn't officially support DVI, but it should work.

Audio will have to be carried on a separate cable. You'll need an digital to analogue audio convertor. I've never used one, so I don't know how well they work (there may be sync problems). I assume you'll also need a toslink cable (to go from the AppleTV to the converter) and depending on the convertor an RCA-to-phono cable (to go from the converter to the TV's DVI audio port). I've never done this, though, so I don't know if there's an easier way.

Thanks Sad Professor, it's all sounding more hassle than its worth! I think ill just return it. Do you know if I hook up my laptop to TV can I play iTunes movies & Netflix that way? I also have PSP which I believe I can hook to TV and play Netflix?

I am trying to make use of TV as I don't use it for TV viewing? I have ipad mini & laptop but there v small for watching things on!

Yeah it's a lot of hassle and expense, which as I said would be better put towards a new TV. You'd be able to get a HDTV with HDMI and larger than your current set for 150-200.

Thanks again for your help, I was under the impression a new tv would be in the 1000's but if I can get one for that price then I may as well upgrade it. Any recommendations. I don,t want anything to big, am limited by space!

At some point you'll have to move to a HDMI TV.

A Wii can connect to scart and has a Netflix client.

Does your laptop have a S Video out? What kinda laptop is it?
