I got a piece of elastic thread (from a pair of broken tracky bottoms), tied it to a balled up pair of old socks.

Tied the other end to a hook in the ceiling

They loved it, swiping at it, chasing it, sometimes even swinging off it.

hours of amusement both for them and us
