Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Dermot & Dave Thread [98fm]

Welcome to the Dermot & Dave on 98fm thread, anyone else enjoy this show as much as me? 3.00pm - 7.00pm Mon-Fri. I'll be honest and admit I only started listening when I followed Ray Foley over to 98 from TodayFM. I used to leave TodayFM on from 9 til my drive home but was so sick of the same old stuff from Tony Fenton every day. These lads are a joy.

They're so creative, all their jingles and segments are a winner, like 'Say Stuff That Suits the Music', 'Mary from Florida', 'Jingly Bits', 'Dave's World' etc, as is their 'banter'. A lot of people will recognise Dermot from Republic of Telly, but he's completely different on the radio. I never realised he was such an accomplished improv comedian. If you haven't heard them before, I'd suggest giving them a listen. I'm surprised there hasn't been a proper thread on them before. By all accounts they were keeping 98 going for the last while.

As much as you think they are popular they have a very low listenership and probably won't last too much longer.
98fm should focus on music and have a drive time show focused on such.

They actually pick the ratings up around 6 o clock to be fair to them, they are an assest to the station so I can't see the station forcing them out, since they moved from breakfast the station has declined in listener ship.

I'm affairs they take a dive at 6pm accruing to the latest JNLR.

    Have alook at http://www.ilevel.ie/media-blog/radio/jnlr-2013-2-dublin-radio-listnership

In a particular the Dublin Quarters (Qs)....

I'm sure they'd find an audience somewhere, and at any time of the day, such is their appeal imo. I don't listen to the radio for music, I listen for personalities, and they are streets ahead of anyone in that timeslot. Love them or hate them, but the same can be said for Ray Foley, Ray D'Arcy, Dave Fanning. They have defined personalities.

What way would you think the market is going? Do people want to hear music or chat? I would have thought chat to be honest, as music is so widely available from iPods etc now, but the JNLR's seem to disagree with me. :o

I think Dermot and Dave are brilliant and truly create some real 'laugh-out-loud radio'

I think they are terrific and certainly superior to Foley and co in that they are funny in an inoffensive way. Foley is quite divisive, you either love him or hate the smart arseness, whereas Dermot and Dave are instantly likeable. Its a massive pity that they couldnt be kept on breakfast, It wouldnt surprise me if Foley was on the same money as dermot and dave combined.

When did the pair start, was it on "Dublin's 98" breakfast?

That Ciaran Gribbins (sp?) comes across very sound, some great stories he has! The new song is very good too imo.

Love Dermot & Dave; they've some great features. It's a really comfortable show I find, in a good way - not sure if I'm using the right word to describe what I mean :p

I love Dermott and Dave! They're hilarious! As James said, go onto Boast and you'll get to chat to Mary from Florida (and Dave too of course). I thought they'd a huge following. The JNLR surprised me there to be honest.

Both Dermot and Dave have been nominated for the Music Broadcaster of the Year at the PPI Radio Awards 2013, and 'Say Stuff that Suits the Music" has been nominated in Entertainment Inserts category. :)

Can't believe Dave picked Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas' yesterday for Cheese n' Crackers. Not only that, but it won 60% of the vote!

    Too early! :D

It was actually so simple in the end. As the caller said it was a DVD case, and they replayed the sound I said to myself, yep, that sounds like it!

Barry Dunne confirmed on twitter that his new slot is midday til 4 so the lads are losing an hour :( wonder what features etc will go?

A 4 hour show was always too long

Was it? They never had any filler you could argue... I mentioned it on the Aidrian and Jeremy thread they could lose an hour.. I like that i'm right, but also disappointed because they are the best duo on radio.

Ahh just saw that now omg. Stop lurking Mr Dunne! I feel bad now, i actually like his show a lot, but that post made it sound like I didn't :P

Disappointing to hear they're being cut by an hour. I would disagree that there is no filler though, there is a fair amount of stuff that gets replayed, US Silly Sports, Say Stuff, Mary from Florida and Jingly Bits all gets repeated during the week. It's all good stuff, so personally I never minded it.

They're my favourite thing on Irish radio (with Foley & JP), so I hope I can keep listening. (I'm not in Dublin, so only listen when I'm at work online) It was ideal for me, because once KC finished at 2.30 I only had half an hour to wait until they came on. Now I've to wait an hour and a half, and can only listen til 6. :( AND when KC leaves TodayFM, my whole radio day is ****ed up!!

Just on the twitter thing, Dermot and Dave are very good for replying to tweets, have often chatted to them on it.

Maybe, but those segments would be rotated on different days, not like they'd US silly sports and then play it an hour later unless they have a massive request. Also most listeners will listen for an hour at most on the way home or around the house so less keen listeners wouldn't notice the repeat.

Either way it is a shame, they are superb on air together and I wonder how listeners will react. Barry Dunne doesnt desrve to lose half his show though. I hope he keeps the 90's and 00's after 12 though, loved that bit.

Barry Dunne had a 5 hour show (all music) which was way too long.

Will be interesting to see how the Adrian and Jeremy show goes. I hated the late night chat shows so haven't listened in years. I'll give them a few weeks to see if they impress.

Defo a shame about Dermot and Dave. I was the same with only a 1/2 hour wait after KC

Equivalent show on FM104 is also 5 hours, all music.

It was the reason I turned it off. If I only wanted to listen to music I'd put on Spotify and listen to the music I wanted to listen to. At least they're trying something new.

A mid morning chat show. Not really new is it?

I meant new as in a departure from an all music show

Anyone know the new times for the US Silly Sports and Say Stuff repeats?
4.15 was perfect for my drive home!

Ye I caught a few minutes of the show today, i'm a fan of the guys but I never hear the Mary from Florida section because of work, but from what I do hear and this trip they made I don't get it? Who is she and why is it popular. The show coming from Florida just seems a bit self indulgent.

On the one hand, Mary is absolutely lovely, she's gas craic (imo) and her little sayings are funny.

But on the other hand, yeah, it seems like they just chanced their arm at a paid holiday and got it!

Why I'm enjoying the show personally, is because they are covering new things and are talking to interesting people... it's nice for a change. I wonder will the novelty have worn off when Mary comes over? Maybe not though, the funniest thing they did before was have her say Irish slang words. They'll probably do more of that kind of thing.

Ray Foley got his digs in on the boys being away anyway! Very funny. He described the lads as Dermot; 'the funny one', and Dave; 'the one who laughs at the funny one.' A hint of envy about the boys being away no doubt. I would assume as they are part of the furniture at 98 that they can do this kind of thing. I'm sure in a few years, when he is more established there, Ray will look to do the same scale of OB. Didn't he do his Today FM show from New York once? :pac:

They're pretty much just having the craic like they do every day but with someone else who's also craic.

Plus, it's paid for by American Holidays. It's also still work!
