Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Again! Thats two game weeks theyve missed out on the chance to go top. Have they the head for it? League is very close now.

Credit must be given to both Levante and Seville tonight for remarkable and brave performances against the top two!

Sid Lowe made the point recently that Atletico play better when they're chasing Barcelona. Bugger them anyway. Take control of their own destiny. :(

And a 5 point gap is reduced to 1. As long as Real don't win it I'll be happy.

Real in a great position and I feel have the best squad out of the 3.

    Will A Madrid bottle this?

I had Real Madrid written off a few weeks back, now I would say they might just be favourites for La Liga?

It's definitely been the best La Liga for quite a while.

Valdes makes a second big save, keeping the score at 0-0

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Barcelona not been at their brilliant best so far tonight but when you need something to go your way then you need big players to stand up and Gerard Pique is a massive player. 1-0

They might even go out of the cup. Athletic Club is in good form these days :D

Jordi Alba playing a blinder tonight. Just intercepted a sure goal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Pedro is irresistible right now, you can see the confidence coursing through him. Messi's laser like passing finds Pedro who creates space for himself and sidefoots it into the far corner. 2-0

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

The distinctive Barcelona style has most certainly been turned on. Messi finds Pedro whose low, narrowed pass is slotted into the net by Sanchez. 3-0, 3 points.

Definite favourites. I would say they are favourites for the CL as well along with Bayern Munich. They have clicked, CR7 is in incredible form and they have a great bench to choose from.

Id say they are certainties for La Liga. Would not be shocked to see them win the CL either.

Big task to win the CL, but suppose they have as good a chance as anyone.

Isn't there a Clasico in between CL knockout rounds - I'd say they would sacrifice a league title to win La Decima.

They have the squad to not have to.

The next Clasico is the weekend of march 23rd.

Certainties? Hardly. Is this just so Barca fans can say that Real 'threw it away' if they dont win it?

Still very tight, noone even near certainties.

Jesus Fellipe Luis (sp?) got left writhing in pain for almost two minutes before Medical Staff got to him. What was with that? The ref even had the game stopped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

    Fully deserved. Game on!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

Atletico Real it is so. Should be interesting. At least one sending off? Lots of threatics, lots of stamping? :D

By all means, why had it to be Athletico Madrid, to get the first win in the new San Mames?

Would you work if you hadn't been paid in 3/4 months?

I'm not saying they are wrong. It's certainly the most effective way.

Make that 6 months with some players having to live at the training ground.

Right thing to do I'd say, that whole club has been destroyed by one idiot.

100% fair play to Racing. They were right to say enough is enough.

I am a season ticket holder at Cork City. In the 2009 season the players were rarely paid, suppliers invoices were an inconvenience, yet the players and staff continued to play and work, despite not getting paid. It came to a head one morning were CCFC were due to trvael to Dublin for a televised game. The bus arrived, but said he would not be going to Dublin until the arrears were paid.

Rather than use this publicity to really put our prick of an owner to the sword, the CCFC captain went onto the radio appealing to fans to put their hands in their pockets. Unfortunately some fans did and the game went ahead. And did anything change after that? Did it fúck.

What Racing did last night was the best course of action to take and people have will have a damn sight more respect for them for doing so. Their fans were in solidarity with them. The same cannot be said of the CCFC issue. Many felt they were a spineless bunch of imbeciles for bending over and repeatedly taking it.

it really was some sight to behold. Fair play to them I say. To both teams even. Its good to see a showing of such solidarity. And just in case some didnt see it

Diego back to Atletico? Interesting one that.

Can never get enough Diego, one of my favourite players :)

Barca go behind for the 3rd time vs Valencia, 3-2 down.

Full time. HUGE result for the Madrid clubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

Real to draw with Atletic (or lose!) and then Aletico Madrid to draw or win. They only need to draw to go top but c'mon pull a few points clear!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,534 Mod ✭✭✭✭Amirani

Barca have 5 points out of possible 12 in the last 4 Liga games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

    Well done, Valencia.

Now, Atleti's turn to bottle their chance of moving ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Don't see Messi miss though every day.

Would have been an incredible goal.

This opens things up nicely. Barca will probably have to win in Madrid when they play.

Jesus just seen that Barca result, at least la liga will be interesting this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,296 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

I fear for Barcelona against Man City the way they are defending lately. Its kamikaze stuff.

The scheduling of matches in La Liga this year has been very odd, a 3pm kick off for such a big match Barcelona vs Valencia seems bizarre.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Shame Messi could't convert that chance late on, it was a magical move, Barcelona's computer game passing at it's very best.

Unfortunately defensively it was a shambles. The game should have been over in the first 30 minutes, after that it descended into chaos. It's become tough to justify playing Alves and Alba in the same team, the backline becomes far too exposed. Fabregas was rather disappointing also. If the match against City were tomorrow I'd be in favour of starting Marc Bartra ahead of Mascherano. Neymar's absence was felt today, far too often Sanchez managed to isolate his marker one vs one and never took him on.

Busquets was terrible, hence Barca's defence became terrible.
