    Guys...

Any advise on reputable Alaskan Malamute breeders in Ireland ? Google searches are not showing a great deal and the IKK link doesn't work.

    Many thanks...

I didnt want to get in trouble with boards for advertising or look like I was promoting a breeder so just sent on the details privately and let the person receiving do their own research....I can send them on again to anyone who pm's me though.

But the OP doesn't want an akita, they are looking for a reputable Malamute breeder, they are two very different breeds.

It is perfectly okay to post details of any breeder you can personally recommend whose details are already available online, say on the IKC website for example. However, we prefer if phone numbers are not posted on-thread: pm phone numbers to one another. Or, if the breeder has a website, you can link to it.
The one exception is self-promotion, so breeders cannot big themselves up here. Also, links to advertining websites such as donedeal and b&s are not allowed.
There's nowt wrong with giving good, reputable breeders a good word here!
    I hope that clarifies.

I know they are different breeds, but are similar. Just trying to get a home desperately needed to point out that there are alternatives to buying.

Volunteer in a pound for a week you might feel differently

Blondes have more fun, quite apart from the fact that you're addressing someone who runs a rescue (making assumptions is always risky), you are dragging this thread off-topic. The OP specifically asked for Malamute breeders, not whether they can get an Akita through a rescue. By all means, post your Akita in the homes needed thread, but this is not the place for it.
Do not reply to this post on-thread.
    Thanks,

And as an aside, the dog in the photo looks a lot more like a german shepard than an akita

Contact lueldar kennels in Kilkenny. They have just had a litter of mals but not sure if any available.

Without wishing to cause offence, that attitude is actually why the pounds are overflowing with breeds such as akitas, huskies and malamutes. They may look similar, but they are very, very different dogs. People take the dogs on because they don't actually understand the breeds. Akitas and mals come from completely different parts of the world and are bred for very different reasons, whilst I have seen akitas working in harness, its not natural to them. Seeing a team of mals out on the trails, you can see how happy and at home they are.

I won't feel any differently, the OP is looking for a reputable breeder, and so is doing the right thing. if there were no reputable breeders, then all we would have are un-health checked, un-socialised dogs. Great that the OP is not looking to go to a back yard breeder or a puppy farmer, these are the people that are pumping out dogs and causing the problems we currently have.

As for volunteering in a pound for a week :D I think I'm quite happy looking after the 14 dogs that are currently in my home thank you, as well as giving rescue back up to the hundreds of dogs that I have taken out of pounds etc and will be responsible for, for the rest of their lives. I'm not sure if you understand the difference between pounds and shelters/welfare organisations?

Regarding the Akita, have you contacted the breeder? That is why the OP is looking for a reputable breeder, because they will offer support and help for the dog's life, including taking any dog back if the owner's circumstances change. So, if people ONLY got pups from reputable breeders, we wouldn't have pounds full of dogs being killed every day. There aren't that many reputable breeders unfortunately, and so many people want a puppy, and they want it now, they aren't actually prepared to do their research and wait for a pup to become available from a good breeder. Imagine if people only ever got a pup in that way :)

I will pm you with details of an Akita rescue, working in rescue every day, I have contacts around the country and in the UK.

    Guys,

Thanks for the further information re: the Mals, it's much appreciated. I'm just checking in briefly from my holiday so when I get back Ill be making calls. If its a case of waiting till next year or whenever I don't mind I guess I've spent up to a year if not more doing a little research on the breed etc so no hurry in that regard.

I would be first time owning I guess what is considered a large breed of dog and while that might be challenging I have done a lot of research, will invest in whatever training would be required and will continue to do so up to and including picking some brains around these parts as you guys seem to know your stuff..!

Where did you get the dog from? A puppy should be exploring and into everything not cowering in a corner like that as if it doesn't know what a house is - was it like that at the breeders?

NO IT WAS'NT. Well considering that 2 hours previous to this picture being taken he had two brothers and two sister and a mummy and daddy whom he has never been seperated from. And has now got all new surrounding. I think he's entitled to be nervous. Didn't take him long to shake it.

OK THEN. I asked because your pic showed a frightened dog and you said it was still nervous... My pup was running the house the second she walked in :pac:

TBH I think it's a bit simplistic to say that a puppy should be behaving in such a specific way. There is of course variation between dogs.

Even with variations none of my puppies would sit in a corner like that in their new homes. They were all running amok & causing good humoured chaos the minute they arrived home with the new owners.

Beautiful dog. The best of luck with him.

He does look nervous in the pic but plenty of socialisation with animals and humans of all shapes and sizes will help him fly along.

I'd also suggest some chew toys for any young dog if you value your furniture!

Ok people or should i say linch mob. I now know for futher reference that when i take a puppy home that i shouldn't leave him adjust at his own pace. I'll make sure to harrass them into exploring their new surrounding even if thats not what they want to do.

No lynch mob. People are just being honest.

Op, please mind your tone. If you have a problem with a post, report it. But do not come on here referring to others as a lynch mob.

I can understand that you feel upset by what was said, but I'll be bluntly honest, the photo you posted, and the info you gave, had me concerned too.
However, we shall move on from here given your assurances that your new pup is okay now, and that your photo caught him at a bad moment. As you've said yourself earlier in this thread, there is plenty of help to be found here.

To all: please keep posts constructive from this point on.
