Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That and RoT were the quintessential TV events when I was a pup. Extraordinary TV at the time.

I remember going to the John Player Theatre to watch a heat, it was the best craic ever.......Woe betide you if you didn't take it seriously...:D

WTF is the Bons Secours hospital doing sponsoring the likes of this? With all the cutbacks hospitals are having to deal with these days, that is fcuking disgraceful imo.

Bons is a private hosp....so your cutbacks comment is moot

The escort got that prize also but so did the Rose of Tralee

The cutlery slip up is going to be discussed on newstalk lunchtime show soon, apparently it was just a coincidence according to the ROT committee

Unfortunately I can't listen as I have to head back to work, might catch it on podcast later

So in that case do they already have the winner picked out but don't announce it until the final night. I guess they could meet the judges beforehand and the final nights are just for tv purposes.

Maybe the name and crest were just an example of how the winners name will look.

The TV aspect is only a small part of the judging process, Daithi even said that during the TV show at one point. To the best of my knowledge, they are assessed throughout the course of the weekend, being interviewed by the judges etc so it is entirely possible they have the winner selected before the TV show. However, IMO it is incredibly unlikely that this cutlery thing was anything other than a coincidence. Whats more dubious is the huge amounts of money put on the winner in the 10 minutes or so before they announced it. 25/1 to 1/33 in 10 minutes?!?

Yeah thats a bit suspect all those bets coming in 10 mins before before the announcement. I'd understand if they all flooded in after she appeared but that looks strange.

Do they ever release who came where in the final results as I'd love to know where some of the others came. I checked the odds on Tuesday before that nights show and Leitrim was the favourite at around 7/4 so it would be interesting to see where she finished up.

Wot a cringe worthy pile of bollocks The Rose of Tralee is. I cant believe there are 61 pages of comments about it here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭Ivefoundgod

I don't think they do no. Would be interesting to see allright. Who did you have as a possible winner?

The last I checked North Carolina was the favourite with Leitrim second, then after North Carolina was on she went out to 6th or 7th and Leitrim favourite I think. That was just after she went off stage so 11ish I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 811 ✭✭✭EB_2013

Either someone came in with a huge bet or everyone found out what name was on the cutlery and put bets on quickly. She was one of the best from Tuesday night and I reckon would have been in the running anyway

I had Leitrim and Abu Dhadi down as my favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭Ivefoundgod

Yeah there were people on twitter claiming to have put money on her after seeing the name but how true that is I don't know. Saw plenty of tweets talking about betting activity, I think even Will Leahy from 2FM said there had been lots of activity on her just before it was announced.

I thought Leitrim had it won long before the end.

I know for a fact that they don't. That's what private means.
You pay or your insurance pays (which of course you pay for). I accept that the situation is different for for example private schools.
But private hosps are really private sector in terms of funding (ie none) fees...and employment with them

I mentioned the gambling fix thing as soon as the result was announced a few pages back. Highly suspicious activity on betfair a minute or so before the result.

An isolated incident? Far from it, this has happened the last 3 years and who knows how long it has happened before i was looking out for it.

Same thing happened a while back for the Irish SPOTY, with Shefflin backed into 1/33 about a minute before the result was announced. Gotta be someone leaking info to their mates cause nothing else explains it.

After reading this thread; I was nearly sniggering at some of your posts. I thought the show was unbearable without reading it.

That marriage proposal was very ill-timed. I was watching it minding my own business. It was like car crash TV at every turn when I did see it.

Texas being called as the winner for this year was a surprise; no doubt controversial.
