looking for a word, possibly irish in origin

    Sounds like mi-adh as in bad luck but would be spelled phonetically like meeaw.

    Seems to be applied to men who are effeminate or soft.

    Dineen has the following:

    Mí-Fhearamhlacht = effeminancy, cowardlinesss
    Mí-Fhearamhail = un-manly, effeminate

    Perhaps connected particularly the second one.

    The "amhail" is just older spelling of the more modern "úil" which is an adjectival addendum.

    It literally means "unmanly".

    The other is the same type of thing, but for a noun. "Unmanliness".
